Rebuilding altenator
I have a 97 4runner Limited and the alternator is beginning to whine like the brushes need to be replaced.
If any one has done this how hard is it to do and is there any special tools or a walk through guide on how to do this?
Would rather just buy new brushes and do it myself then drop a couple hundred on a new alternator.
Thanks for any help!

I had to replace the voltage regulator in mine a few years ago. a new alternator was $120.00.... the regulator $80.00. the regulator went out again after about 6 months. next time i'd just suck it up and buy a whole new alternator. especially since it was a pain in the can to get it out and broke one of the small housing screws.... more frustration than it's worth to piece it out rather than slap a new one in there and call it a day in my opinion.
