Rebuilding 3.4

Just bought a 99 taco with 205k on the dash. My plan is to build a nice off-roader that handles the highway nicely. I want to eventually lift it and stuff 35's under it. First of business will be to pep the engine back up to make it safe. I want to pull the engine and put some new internals in to keep it from blowin on me with over 200k miles. Then I want to slap a TRD supercharger/intake/exhaust on it. My question is..what should I do to the engine to keep it bulletproof? I would like to have the engine built and supercharger ordered or installed and tuned by September˟

Im new to yotas and the 3.4l so I dont know its weak spots or what is normally needed with so many miles

You would probably be just fine doing a regular tune up and change the timing belt and water pump.

So the internals should be able to handle the extra power that the supercharger dishes out?

I would imagine since some come stock with the supercharger.

Wow, didn't know that..

I guess i'm just worried because of the 200k miles...but "if it ain't broke, don't fix it," right?

Probably the supercharger your were going to order is a factory one. If you've researched them yet

Yes I have done some research. It will be a TRD OEM supercharger. I will also be getting the URD 7th injector kit for the fuel upgrade to help with pinging. Then a 2.2 pulley i believe is another recommendation. I'm not sure what the "IPT Valve body upgrade" is though? Is that only for automatic tranny's?

Yes, leave the engine alone, they regularly turn 300k-400k miles. They are tanks that refuse to die. They will also take a TON of abuse, more then the wimpy TRD superchaerger can put out thats for sure.

If you want some real power/performance go turbo.

The stock engine is good to north of 400whp, how far north depends on how you are tuning it and whats making the power.

If you were really going to go wild with boost, you'd probably want some H-beam rods and forged pistons. And a cam.

But really, all you really need to do is a t-belt/wp unless it's had one recently.

The good thing about thrashing a bone stock engine is that if you blow it up, another one is really cheap and easy to find. Blowing up a $$$$ set of custom rods and pistons really hurts.
