Rearview Mirror with Compass and Temp?
I found this on Ebay:
'99 Rearview Mirror Auction
It says it's for a '99 4Runner but I have a '98. Anybody know if the electronics for the compass and temp sensor are part of the mirror, or are they separate? If they're separate, it looks like they aren't including them. Regardless, the photos in the auction aren't very informative.
I didn't know you could get a '99 with temp/compass. I'd like to retrofit one if they mount the same way as the '98s and come complete with everything needed.

I could be wrong, but I don't think any 3rd gen 4runners came with comp/temp/auto dim mirrors. I believe yours is like mine, it bolts to the ceiling rather than the windshield. The mirror in that picture looks to attach to the windshield. You can still use it. Remove your mirror, install a windshield mount, mount it to the windshield and run the wires to the overhead electronics. I can't tell if the mirror comes with the wiring or not. Some do and some don't. It depends on how they removed the mirror from the vehicle. You could e-mail the seller and ask. If not, you would have to purchase a wiring plug from the dealer or junkyard. I think for the temp control, you have to have an additional temp sensor also. Check out these posts:

My 99 Limited has it as well as the 99 2wd Limited that I sold last year. The other 99 4wd Limited that I had (the black one) did not have it, but it didn't have a sunroof either, so it was apparently an option and not standard equipment. It may be standard for limited's with sunroof...

Thank you. I stand corrected. Does your mirror attach to the windshield or does it attach to the ceiling like the standard models?

by the way, the temp & compass are powered in the rear of the unit. there is a plastic power piece with about 5 or 6 holes, 1 is for compass, 1 is for temp, 1 is for ground.. not sure about the others.
i only have the compass activated on mine, but i could apparently have it be for temp instead, but i do not need this.
they are so easy to install, i was just retarded about electronics and afraid to mess up. i will have that writeup for ya asap. feel free to shoot me any questions in the meantime.

I placed a couple of bids but quit early. I wish I would have kept going. It went for $29.50. I'll definitely keep my eye out for others though.
