Rear Window Rolling Down With Key
Ok, so this isn't a question by any means. But I had to grab something out of the back of my 4Runner, and I rolled down the window using the key. My friend was completely amazed and baffeled. Then I realized, I never would have figured out that the window can be controlled by the key in the rear door except that the previous owner showed me the feature before I bought it. I'm sure MOST of the people here already know this, but I feel like I'm just doing my good deed for the day!
So just a little tip for all you 3rd gen owners, if you stick your key in the key hole in the back, and turn it left, it will put the rear window down, and if you turn it right it will put it up!
(You can reply to this if you didn't know of the feature, it will make me feel good )

I didn't know that!!!! That's handy to know because I've always been disappointed that you couldn't use the remote to do it.
I didn't see this little tidbit of information in this thread that I posted a while back... but it certainly should be there.

Wow, I just assumed every 4R owner knew that. I guess since I've owned 4Rs for the last 8-10yrs or so, I just figured it was common knowledge.
I love having the keyless entry w/ the 3rd button that lets you remotely roll down the rear window too. Now only if I could remotely roll up the window, that'd rock!

I only learned about in the thread about discoveries on your 4runner. I read about this six months ago and had to go outside and try it. Lo and behold, it worked. Six months later and I haven't used it once. Oh well...

Maybe mine is sticky but the first time I went to open the hatchback the window started rolling down. I actually have a hard time just unlocking it without the window moving.

Yeah, rolling it down w/the remote is great when you're walking up with a bunch of stuff you want to thow in the back. It is too bad you can't roll it up with the factory remote though.
I did see a couple of aftermarket alarms that could be configured to roll it up or down. I was hoping someone would figure out a way to get the stock remote to do that.

My pooch has loved 4Rnr's and the roll-down rear window ever since I bought the '87 4Rnr Turbo and then upgraded to a '97. Although if not carefull you can get quite a blizzard of dog-hair if things have accumulated over winter and you try the first few windows-down cruises in spring. I don't however miss the Gen-II requirement to rolldown the window at all - granted the tailgate was a better place for ones posterior than on Gen-III...

I read the manual a few days after I bought my 4runner. I found out that their are two storage spaces in the center console glove box. I also found out that if I unlock the door with the key and turn it to the left again it unlocks all the doors. Pretty neat.
