rear window problem solved & 1 other problems
Well good news for once on a rear window. I was cleaning the my '88 Runner today and got to pushing many buttons trying to clean dust around those nooks and crannies. I get in to drive off and the switch for the back window doesn't work. So I start with the obvious: I've pushed the window lock button down while cleaning....NOPE!
I start checking the fuses (By the way I can raise and lower it from the tailgate. I gave up and started searching online...Then I remembered that I hadn't reconnected the rear wiper wiring after having the top off so I reconnected that, started the truck up and the wiper was going.
I shut it down (the rear wiper) and tried the window switch again and BINGO! The wiper switch was on but not moving which I as I take it was not allowing me to raise or lower the back window via the center console switch...either that or it had healed itself.
Now can anyone help me on this issue.
The rear wiper operates but doesn't make contact witht he rear window. It goes back and forth about an inch from the window making it useless. It seats fine when I shut it off, just won't make contact ever with the window.
Thanks

Thats cause the rear wiper spring is no good, or the joint is rusting....common for them to go out on those runners. First, try lubing the moving joint on the wiper arm. If that doesn't work, you may have to buy a new wiper arm since the spring may be worn out.
I just went throught the same thing with my 86 4Runner, so i just bought a brand new arm from toyota. Spendy but OH MAN it works nice.
