Has anyone ever tried making a rear tire carrier for a 4runner that would just slid into the Hitch reciever? I believe you could Bring it straight out and start the 45 degree angle and not loose much angle of accent?????? Has anyone tried??????????

A while back I found some similar products on the Net:

Second
The second allows you to still use your hitch to TOW with the spare tire on, the first does not, as well as the other features listed. One is just a plain piece of tubing, a pin and a u-bolt, the other is not...read the differences.

Well its obvious why the second one is more expensive!! It comes with a mercedes and the first one comes with a pos F150. some people are just so blind!
sorry... couldn't resist...
On a more serious note... That first one looks pretty cool. I mean... for only $50. Could quite easily be a trail only type thing. That would work great with my bumper mod (when I get around to doint it ) Wouldn't really mess with approach angle at all then. hmmmm... but... now that I think about it. I kinda would rather do something like that but have the little tray thing that folds up and dow, and then mount a tire holder on the bottom of one of those or something. Then could have a little extra exterior storage on road trips and a tire carrier while off-road... hmmmmm hmmmMMMMMmmmm....
Something like this but metal...

3rd gen tire carrier
I have decided that for the cost involved, a simple tire carrier like shown in the pics above is what I am going to do. No hinges to bust, no significant moment arms to worry about, and no latches to break, just a piece of tubing in the trailer hitch receiver to a 90 degree, up to a plate with (3) lugs in a Toyota wheel pattern, with an illuminated license plate frame attached on the side of the main vertical post. Then I'll get a nice custom bumper later and won't have the tire carrier issues to worry about and it should be a heckuvalot cheaper too.
