Rear seat belt replacement

Rear seat belt replacement
Hey guys I tried using the search function but only found write up for the front belts. My wife was trying to get the passenger rear seat belt to retract on my 98runner Limited so she pulled it out all and it wont retract at all. So any tips on what would make this easier would be appreciated. Thanks ahead Russ

Think of that retractor as a hold down ratchet strap, except when you pull the seat belt all the way out sometimes it will lock into position with the springs. If you can get the cover off the retractor part, sometimes you can flip the locking bar that locks against the teeth and "help" it spool back up. Alot of times those recoil springs just get weak or old, and lose the ability to wrap the belt back around the spool.

You might consider that if it has given you trouble once-it may or then again may not ever give you trouble again.
While you have the panel trims all removed it may be helpful just to have another seatbelt unit ready to bolt on in.
Not sure of your location or color of belt needed-but it could be that one of us already has a part out vehicle with just what you need.
I highly recommend you add your location to your User Name as old fart and I have done-and your vehicle specs for that matter to your signature.
It eliminates the repetition of having to state those items and could lead one of the members to contact you-"Hey you need a (brown/gray) passenger side/driver side rear seat belt retractor? I got one and live right down the highway from you..."
For example if you are in California-there is a 97 part out with (I believe) the tan interior package and I can vouch for the seller Conigirl.
