Rear Main Seal, and Synthetic Trans ??
Hey everyone....
I recently purchased a 95 4 runner AT, 3.0, Limited, to add to the family of toyotas....
It looks like the engine rear main seal is leaking. The vehicle has 75k on it. According to the Toyota service records the vehicle wasnt driven much in the last two years.
My 22re's (4cyls) have 144 and 178k on them and neither leak.
Is this a problem with the 3.0 V6?
Do you guys know if BARRS stop leak might seal it up? The leak is about a drip a day or so. It appears on the tranny bell housing lip.
I can imagine this is a tough cookie to replace also.
ALSO.... Does anyone use synthetic TRANS Fluid (dextron equiv.) on their Automatic tranny's??? IS it worth the change? I am also tempted on changing to a synthetic motor oil.....
Thanks,
Michael

Lots of guys like AMSOIL synth ATF or other synth fluids in auto trannies. Everyone raves about how they run cooler and shift more smoothly. Suposedly you get what you pay for there. $$$
Can it be determined if the leak is motor oil or ATF from the torque converter?? Either way its a pain to fix. There are products that claim to stop those leaks. Its worth a shot considering what seal replacement involves.
