Hey Y'all,

Has anyone actually changed one of these out? I still need to make certain it's the core that's stopped up but....doesn't look too tough to get out.

I removed the rear heater core from my 1st gen. It was super easy, but kinda messy since it is plumbed into the cooling system. After removing the center console, I went under the truck and disconnected the 2 hoses. Then just unbolt it on the inside and thats it. Since I wasn't replaceing mine, just removing it, I don't have first hand experience about installing a new one, but I'm sure its just as easy.

BTW, I have the core from my 89 4Runner still, so if its the same part, I'd be more than happy to sell it to you. Since I live in Phoenix I don't need rear seat heat. I have all the wiring, hoses and everything.

First, thanks for the removal info...I might find the time this weekend, I'm still unsure as to the extent of the stppage in my system...and second, Lemme see if I can find out whether yours will fit mine....

No problem Wes. It took me right around an hour to remove the core and re-plumb the hoses. I seem to have failed to mention that step in my last post. Since I was removing, not replacing mine, I took one of the hoses off the core and just bent it around to the other side to complete the cycle. I eventually followed the pipes to the engine compartment and found where they were taped into the reset of the system and just removed them. Now its like the rear seat heater was never there.

It's easy to get out. My blockage was in the pipes to the heater. They are only about and 1/8th of an inch and get blocked easy if you had put rad sealer in it. Those were much more difficult to get out in one peice and repair. Not impossible just more difficult.
