rear floor mats in new 2003?
I just bought a new 2003 v8 limited 4Runner and it didn't come with floor mats for the back seat. Did anyone else's?
Anyone know roughly what it will cost to have the hood protector or the sport bumper trim installed? I thought I was getting it fully loaded but there appear to be a few things missing.

A "limited" runner without full carpet mats? Thats doesn't sound right to me - check with the dealer and complain. Make sure they are not riding around in the salesman's friends' or girlfriend's car....

Yeah there is definetly something wrong there. When I bought my 4Runner it didn't come with floor mats either but that's because the parts department didn't have them in stock. I had to pick mine up four days later. Maybe it's possible this is what happened with you? Regardless, you should have gotten both front and back floor mats.

Rear Floor Mats
Floor mats don't appear to be standard equipment on the '03s, even the Limited! My Limited came with a $261 "convenience package" which included carpeted floor mats, a cargo mat, a cargo net and a first aid kit. This option is listed as code C7 on the sticker. But I'd think that if you have front floor mats, you should have rears also.
Before you order the Sport Bumper Trim, I recommend you carefully look at one in the flesh. Despite its rugged appearance, it's flimsy plastic that a good kick would break.

I've got the factory mats with my SR5 (they we're an option)
But you really want a nice set of Husky Liners, they do a much better job or protectign the floor, my factory mats are now sitting in my garage. But if you do have the factory mats option, you should definitaly check and see if you can get the missing mats

Floor mats in Limited definitely an option. I just got my Limited about 3 weeks ago and window sticker lists the 5 piece mat set as something extra (CF). I also noticed when I was pricing on kbb.com that 4 piece mat set is also extra. Check your window sticker and, and see if the mat option is listed. Maybe the other mats were removed to put in another vehicle (this was the case with my 4runner...salesperson did order a set for me to correct the problem) or maybe a salesperson threw front mats in as a freebie???

Yes, get the Husky's if you live outside an asphalt jungle. The mats that came in my SE were a $225 option. I would say they are worth $30. I just put my Husky's over the optional Toyota slicks and now have two layers of protection.

Hey, I am just curious, so please don't get mad at me for asking this. Unfortunately this has nothing to do with the floor mats, but I was just reading this and got curious. I am looking into getting a 4th gen Runner. I am just wondering why everyone has the V8? I mean is there a reason that you got it? The V6 has more power. Just wondering...thanks! :fireman:

Also, the V8 has been around for a long time and is a well respected, proven engine. The V8 also comes with a 5 speed transmission whereas the V6 has a 4 speed.
Hope this helps!

I owned a '02 Sport with the 3.4 183hp V6.
Anything that added two more cylinders sold me. Correct, it was the torque and the full-time four wheel drive that sold me. Same drivetrain as in the Land Cruiser, which is $20K more.
The V6 4.0 is a brand spanking new engine. Stay away from new engines! Be afraid, be very afraid.

Ask me in 10 years if I'd say the same thing.....

I wouldn't worry so much about a new engine from Toyota (GM yes, Toyota, no). Your decision should be based more on the use of the vehicle - V8 for towing, V6 for everyday use although the V6 does great with a 2000lb load behind it. If you're going to live in fear of new technology, then remember the 5 speed auto in the V8 addition is equally new and in today's world, transmissions cost almost as much as engines. Also, the V8 is an interference engine with a timing belt - lose one and you'll pay 12K for a new engine. The V6 has an old fashioned timing chain (thank god) without a listed maintenance interval. Bottom line, there's good and bad points to both drivetrains but either one is a great vehicle. However, if you do opt for the V6, listen hard to that sucker at idle from inside and outside the car, especially the drivers side down by the wheel (exhaust manifold). Some of us have a valve tapping noise that probably doesn't affect durability but is annoying as hell in a 30K vehicle. Also accelerate with the drivers window down next to a jersey wall or building and make sure you don't find the exhaust note annoying (I don't but some have complained).

What I was referring to is that when I buy a vehicle, I expect to get at least 10 years or 100K miles out of it. With the V6, I have no worries at all.
Basically, you take care of the engine, it will do its job. I'm fanatical about oil changes and routine maintenance.

Start up the V8 and rev it up a few times, If it doesn't put a smile on your face, you should probabyl just get a V6, I've always just liked a littel more power, I tow a small boat, don't need the V8, but I've always liked V8s, the power and the sound just makes it worth it

I know my Husky Liners saved me today, We were going down a bumpy dirt road, and had some drinks spill onto the mats, enough to leave a good sized puddle in there, just got a towel, cleaned it up, and it was all good.
Also the trail we were on was really dusty, so after getting in and out several times, the black mats were starting to look tan, just washed them out and good as new, didn't leave anythign on the carpets,. The factory mats are ok, but they leave to many exposed areas, and get too dirty themselves

Well, thanks for the info. I am researching everything right now. I am just starting off right now (full time job for 6 months) and I need to save up some money for a down payment and such. The thing that I am looking for is both power and how I am going to use it. Basically, I don't do any towing. I never have and might never, but who knows. I do think that the V6 does ok with light loads, which is probably all that I will need...aka...a 4wheeler in my future? My job requires some driving and I just can't see it being feasible to me to have a V8 that takes more gas than the V6. I have the 3.0 V6 in my 2nd gen. It is good, but I could use more schwoop, and I believe that I will be getting about 90 more HP with the new one, so I am leaning toward the V6. I am going to get one in about a year or so, so the engine should (hopefully) have any bugs out of it. I am either going to get a left over 2004 or a 2005. I do have some questions if someone would not mind answering.
I am new at this whole buying a new car thing, but does Toyota give good APR on financing. I certainly can't pay for my vehicle by cash, but is it better to get a loan through a bank or is it better to use Toyota's financing? Also, that being said, can anyone (if they don't mind of course) give me an idea of a monthly payment. I know it is hard to do without knowing my % or my down payment or whatever, but what are you all paying for it. That is a concern for me.
Another question that I have is the availability of the model that I would like. I am basically looking for a 4x4 V6 sport, with the moon roof package. If the dealer doesn't have that, would they order it for me or am I going to have to settle for something. Again, I am new at this, so please bear with me if they are dumb questions. Thank you!
P.S. I went to Toyota's Website and "Built my own" 4Runner. These are the specs. Thanks!
Here's the 4Runner you've configured.
Be sure to print out this summary and present it when you meet with the dealer. But remember, the vehicle price in this summary is only approximate - the actual price will be set by the dealer.
