Is this a rear axle seal symptom?
I know my rear axle seals are blown but I'm not sure how long they've been out and I've recently started having some issues.
From a dead stop, at a roll, and sometimes at speed when I apply the accelerator the truck hesitate and the RPMs go up for a second before it "engages".
It mostly happens when I'm stopped or have slowed down enough for it to drop into 1st. Truck does the same thing if I put the selector on "L" when I start out.
Could this possibly be a symptom of the blown rear axle seal or am I probably looking at transmission issues as well?
I don't have the time or resources to fix it on my own and have to drive 1500 miles with everything I own in the truck next month so I just need to keep shop costs down if at all possible.

So rebuild or new tranny? I was hoping maybe the rear axle seal failing was causing the whole drive line to slip.
That's what I was hoping it wasn't, this is depressing since I just swapped out my old dead tranny for a used one. I guess that one was shot too, should have just paid the money the first time.

Is there any way that could have something to do with the TPS? I've been crusing some more threads and it keeps popping up as well. Any way to test that?

TPS would be a bit more consistent than what you are describing, i have my money on the transmission, did you install a new torque converter when installing the new/used tranny? if not if you had contaminents such as bad fluid dirt debris or transmission components floating through your old tranny, they were contained in the torque converter as well. and would cause a failure in even a brand new or rebuilt trans.

Nah we used the TC that came with it. :/
I think I'm just going to suck it up and have the transmission replaced this time. Am I better off going to Toyota or to an independent mechanic?

depends on if you have a reputable trans company there locally or someone that offers a warranty on a rebuild, nationwide preferably since you said you'd be moving, but either way rebuild yours or buying new you should get a new torque converter with it in the quoted price it just depends what your budgeted for a toyota trans from dealer will be more expensive for sure

i mis read your question an independent mechanic SHOP will offer the warranty that is extended to them from whom ever they purchase the transmission from or whoever they send it to for rebuilding, aswell as a warranty on their labor for x amount of time, dealer will be more expensive but as you said your moving you'd need a independent that has multiple branches like a aamco transmisson or such

this is a rear axel seal problem i had the same thing what is happening is the oil is leaking into the rear drum break linings causeing them to stick applying gas breaks them loose causeing the hesitation replace the seals replace the break linings and you will be fine.

Umm... Did you happen to check the Automatic Transmissoin fluid? I assume its an auto yes?
Start truck and warm to operating temp. Check fluid with vehicle running.
If the fluids low the transaxle will slip...
If its slipping in a manual you need a clutch more than likely...
