real world results for 22RE
I registered on this site about a week ago to see if anyone had real results from bolt on exhaust. One of you guys suggested a header from LC Engineering, well THANKS!!
It cost me about $800.00 for a header, hi-flow cat, and a complete cat-back system. I also bought a cold air intake from Downey for $185.00.
Now for the results,
Bone stock with a brand new 22RE and fuel injectors, with a 5 speed I was getting a constant 21.33-21.80 0-60MPH.
Now after bolting on the goodies, with a little tire spin from the new 31" Goodyear MTR tires she gets a constant 15.22-15.91
average!!!!
Thats a whole 6 seconds off for less than a grand!!!!!!!!!!
I know that mid 15s dont sound fast compared to the cars of today, but when your talking about an SUV 4X4 4Cyl 5Spd on 31" tires with factory gears thats pretty darn fast!!!
Thanks again for the advice. Toyotabuster75.

Oh I forgot to mention that my fastest run was with an extra 250-300#s of tools and chains in the back. I was rudely reminded that they were in there when they hit the tail gate.

hmm
I should measure my 0-60 time. I have full exhaust, headers, supra afm, with cone filter, 3mm overbored throttle body intake matched, 25k miles on rebuilt engine, 31 in tires, 4.56 gears with front and rear true tracs. Not to mention the other stuff. All I need is a doa cam and I'll be good to go.

ya
It might be slow but I would like to see a car or truck that does 0-60 in 6 or even 10 seconds last as long as the 22r's do. You have to give up something to get something. In this case it's power for longevity. Although you can make them a whole lot more powerful without losing the same reliablility if you don't go crazy.

The cat is a high flow 2 1/4" pipe in/out and for my runner its 12 1/2" long. The cat back system is all ceramic coated 2 1/4" with a real nice looking chrome tip. My only problem with the system is a personal one and that is due to it now sounds like bees in a honey jar.(like a euro-type sports car) other than that there is no way I would ever go back to stock.
You can see the complete system(header,cat,cat-back with chrome tip) at http://www.lcengineering.com/home.htm.
My part #s were 14-4112 for header
14-8622764 for cat
14-86300 for cat-back
I hope you all get the same results I did!

hmmm
I have heard others were very disatisfied with lc engineerings cat back system. Their headers are great and I've never really heard a complaint about those. I went with a flowmaster 50 series free flow cat and 2 inch tubing and love it. It's not loud, but you still know it's there, nice deep throaty sound. I wouldn't go higher than 2 1/4 inch on a 22re though. From what I understand the bigger the pipe the less torque and better hp or top end.

I cant compare it to any other after market cat-backs because its the first exhaust for mine. The exhaust I yanked out was the original manifold to rusty tip with orig. cat all with 237,000 miles.

You can do it MUCH cheaper than that, too!
I recently bought the Pacesetter header from Summit for $140 and was REALLY impressed with the quality for the price. It has a 2.5" collector. The flange is so thick that you could use it as a jack stand :-) It will NEVER warp! Even came with a NICE gasket!
I also bought a dynomax turbo race muffler and a new high flow cat from Summit as well. The muffler was $39.95 and the cat was $55. I bolted up the header, drove it to a local muffler shop, and paid $60 for aluminized 2.5" pipe all the way back, including labor!
Grand total: $295 for all parts and labor. Oh, wait, I also bought 1 can of 1200 degree ceramic header paint (don't use the 500 degree stuff) for $7, stripped the factory coating on the header, and repainted with the ceramic paint. Still looks like new after 6 months, for only 7 bucks!
Not trying to show you up, man, but for those of us on a tighter budget, $295 was much better :-)
I got similar performance gains, too. 14.9 sec 0-60 with 4.10 gears.
Feel free to email me if anyone has any questions. It was the best thing I've done yet. Sounds beefy, too! Actually RUMBLES at idle! No joke!! Not like my 71 Chevelle SS 454, but a rumble nonetheless :-)
