Rancho 89-95 IFS lift kit

Hey everyone, I've been reading around on this forum for a while, and it looks like yall know your stuff about 4x4s, so heres my question. How good is the Rancho 89-95 IFS 2.5" (?or 3"?)suspension lift? I saw somewhere that it costs around $450 bucks, and this is a huge step down in price from those $800 and $900 Skyjacker and Procomp lifts (even though those are 4") I'm a 16 year old in high school and I have to pay for insurance and gas, so $450 wouldnt be all too hard on me. I think that the Rancho lift would accomodate 33"s on my truck (have 32"s with stock suspension). What is yalls imput on this? How does the Rancho lift perform in a 'baja' style environment? Is rancho even a reliable company for suspension lifts? ANY info would be greatly appreciated!

I had a Rancho 4 " lift for my 83 and it sucked barely 2 1/2" of lift I'm not sure of the IFS lifts though.

Go to the Pirates of the Rubicon BBS and look in the for sale section.. You can find them for about $300-$500 all day long (used mind you)

But what are you trying to do with the truck?? What are your end goals?? There is a lot of debate on the lift kits v/s a body lift and mods ect.. right down to the real 4x4 set up, the solid axle swap.. But you have to need to know what you plan on doing with it, what tire you want to fit and how serious you are going to go with it.. You can do it wise or lose a lot of cash..

Sorry! I completely ran past this part! lol well my truck is a 1993 single cab 4x4 pickup with a 4 cylinder and a 5 speed. As for a SAS, I don't think it would be nesecary, as I live in the part of Texas that has absolutely no challenging crawling trails (which sucks lol). as for larger lift with larger than 33" tires, it would simply be not practical for me... I wouldn't get decent gas mileage at all! I suppose my goal is to be able to fit 33" tires without spending mad cash for a 4" suspension lift. Would I still need 4.88 gears if I was switching from 32" tires to 33" tires? *mainly what I want is somthing that doesn't look like a stock Toyota Truck, and that can take on a muddy/baja style environment every time it rains *which is about once a month*

For gen of truck there is no 4". Just 3". It's a 3" front lift with 2.5" add-a-leafs. I've got the rancho lift with blocks instead of leafs. Although I don't know if I can give you an accurate review of the lift, because I don't believe my truck was left alone with the lift. From what I can gather my truck was lifted an additional inch or so, because I am almost maxed out on droop in the front. I don't have any good pictures that show the truck on level groung... the best I can do is this...

depends what gears you start from, i have 4.56 and i run 33s no sweat. its a little underpowered above 75mph but you shouldnt run much faster than that anyway !

i have stock 4.10 gears, and right now, without a/c on i can usually keep my speed at 60 miles per hour in 5th going up any of the hills around here. your right, above 75 in a 4x4 isnt for me anyway, i have gotten 2 speeding tickets and im only 16! one more will get my license away.... i got out of the speeding game, though sometimes i find it nesecary to get up to 70 to pass that trucker trying to cut me off *heh heh*(speed limit is 65 around here) but yeah... what kind of gas mileage you get with 33"s and 4.56s?

Well if a 33" is the biggest you want to go, and you don't need the atriculation of a SAS with flexy leaf springs.. I say run a 1" - 2" body lift from Roger brown.. I have 32's on my 4Runner pretty much stock, I only now rub slightly with the new low profile bump stops. You could crank the torsion bars a little, add a 1" body lift and fit the 33"s just fine. Other than that If you really "have to have" that 3" lift.. Search the POR BBS for a good used one, You may need to buy some rear blocks... But that is not a real problem..

that 2" body lift would work.... IF i didnt care if my frame hangs down. im kind of prejudice on this cause i HATE body lifts *no offense!* i dont see the practicality in them... it doesnt really GAIN you anything since your frame hangs down *aside from how much you gain from the bigger tires* so 2" body lift with 33s WOULD work... but im all against body lifts..

plus im looking forward to new shocks - truck has 120000 on it

Well, I have just been down this route before and I will not go into it again.. (IE: do a search) But keep in mind, your problem areas are not your frame.. It is your front end, the tranny crossmember and gas tank.. With the IFS lift your worse area, the front suspension will retain the exact same flex, height, and movement.. Your tranny will sit higher, true, and your gas tank will be higher.. However with a 2" body lift you can raise the gas tank.. IMHO, 33" with a 3 or 4" lift looks silly.. You need to go with 34's at least..

well, here is my truck with 32"s... pretty good for stock I suppose, though my tires go up and rub in my fender wells when the truck is articulating on some things
