Quick & silly question!
Hi everyone.
I'm supposed to have my prospective 1999 Black SR5 (w/46k) inspected by Toyota this coming Monday AM, before plunking down the $15.9 (or less, depending on my haggling skills)
I just noticed a 2000 Black SR5 on Ebay, with same options, 500 miles away in Ohio (I'm in NY) The bidding is currently around $15k, with 4 hours left to bid. Never having bought a car at auction before, am I safer sticking with the dealer's 1999, 5 miles from my home?
Both cars are one owner. Both have good car faxes. The local car in NY has the previous owner's name, so I can give him a call, and find out why he sold, and for how much. The OHIO truck is an off-lease purchase. It was a New York truck, bought by an OHIO dealer.
The OHIO truck would mean winning the auction, driving a rental 500 miles to the dealer, then driving the SR5 back 500 miles. Might this be a better option? From what I can tell, the trucks, except for the year, are almost identical.
Thanks for the umpteenth time for your feedback!
Rob

The bidding can go quite a bit higher on Ebay. Not to say don't do it but if you like the one at the dealer you actually get to sit in that one and test drive it. Its definately buyer beware with an Ebay purchase that expensive.

EBAY is weird. Iasked the seller whether there was a reserve on the 2000. He said yes, he had a buyer willing to pay $21k, so he would end the auction early if there didn't seem to be enough interest, because the vehicle was listed with no reserve.
So the high bid at $18.2 was never cancelled! SO either he had a shill buddy bidding (the winning bid was from his town) or else he lied, or else he forgot to end early & got himself burned!
Who knows...EBAY is full of kooks!
Looks like I'm buying the 1999 @ $15.9k

Did you ever inquire about Phil Roemer the moderator who passed away over at Outdoor Wire?
He had a very nice 2000 with the E locker, 285 Goodyear MT/R tires, custom stereo, and much more.
His dad has it up for sale, and it is one nice rig.
Here is the rig.
If anyone is interested in this rig, you can contact Mr. Roemer.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm a little nervous about calling up a father in the aftermath of his son's unfortunate passing. Do you know the circumstances of Phil's death?
Thanks, Rob

See the post above by me.
Either one of those links will take you to ODW.
Phil's father would like to sell the rig to someone I would imagine that is on the forums and who can appreciate the work Phil put into the rig.
A regular person buying it off the lot at some dealership can not fully comprehend the work that went into it.
Phil had done quite a bit of work to it and also put a nice external fuse box under the hood for tapping into for stuff like CB, lights, ect.
I don't think the rig was even taken off road, as Phil was always fine tuning it to get it just right.
If I had the $$$, I would probably buy it myself.
It's got the super charger already on it, and quite a lot done to it.
Feel free to contact his father if you are interested in it.
They do want to sell it, and whoever gets it will have a rig in excellent condition.
PS, do you ever check your PMs here?
I PM'd you a few weeks back about his rig being up for sale when I saw you looking for a 3rd gen.

Thanks for the follow up info. And yes, I did answer your responses to me! Perhaps you overlooked them. I mentioned that I suspected the cost of the amazing truck would probably exceed my means.
Thanks again, RL

Corey, the reason for that is that you don't have top open those emails, if you know you've already seen their contents, which is possible when you log onto this site. Inother words, I'd already read the contents!
I also received an email re: the amazing Roemer 4Runner. It is BREATHTAKING but alas, it's been appraised at over $30,000, almost double what the 1999 I'm about to buy will set me back. Clearly, I'd rather be driving it, but the funds aren't there
