questions (engine and other)
i've got an 86 4-runner w/ 2.4 efi, non turbo. does anyone know what the sensor on the passanger side, near the top rear of the engine (just above the starter) is?? goes directly into the block. the electrical plug broke off mine and i'm not sure what it is. the plug on it is yellow if that helps. second, how do you get engine codes from the first gen 4-runners. the book says to use a diagnostic connector located near the coil but i'm not sure which connector it is or which plug to use. does anyone have a pic or just describe it better. third, how much lift is needed to run 33" tires. will torsion bar and 2" or 3" body lift be enough?? what gears do you recomend with 33" tires.
thanks for your help

I may be able to help you with the diag. connector.
Do you have a fusebox like this under there?

That's the 3.0 V6 one.
You short that for timing, and I think you retrieve the codes that way too.
I hear you can run 33" tires with a 1" body lift, and a crank on the T bars.
See this post.
Of course you'd have to bring up the aft end too, and AALs are better than blocks for doing that.
Todd has a write-up in the suspension round-up here on putting Rancho AALs on his '88.
Gears, if I was going to run 33's, I'd shoot for 5.29s.
Some complain that 4.88s are not low enough.
4.88s came stock with the 31" tire package on the rigs of my year, and going to a 33" would loose some power.
