I just bought Timken bearings for the front of my truck. I got the inner cup, inner cone, inner seal, and set 47 outer bearings. My question is this. Since none of the local auto stores sell Timken outer seals, is it possible to use say a Beck & Arnely outer seal? I'm going to be installing new cv's, new bearings, and my manual hubs tomorrow. Thanks!

Sure you can as long it is for the application you can use any name brand seal you want. I was only aware of one seal on the rotor and that is the inner.

54mm socket, or a 2 1/8 socket, which you can find at Sears for $25 or so.

Also I think AutoZone rents axle nut sockets, try them.

Yea, there is no outer wheel bearing seal, just the inner. There is the hub gasket seal though. Probably a dealer only part.

Yeah, I got the hub assembly to wheel gasket. Thanks for the info. I'll see if Autozone has em!

After reading some other posts, I'm thinking it is probably the spindle bushing that has worn out, causing this problem. I'm going to put my new cv's in and take a look at my existing wheel bearings tomorrow. If the wheel bearings are not corroded, pitted, rusted, worn down, etc... I'm going to repack them with grease, refund the brand new wheel bearings I bought, and drive around the block to see if the clunking sound is still there. If it is... then crap, I have to spend my whole next day off replacing that dam ned steering spindle bushing. :cry: Anyone near Bakersfield want to help me out if that's the case? So... tired... of... doing... repairs... on... truck... need... money... for... fun!! :cry:

There is an updated roller bearing avail for this.

Toyota TSB DL94-001 issued in 94 (90-94 runners/trucks)

It is to reduce noise in the axle in "extreme cold" conditions, but I like the thought of a bearing over a brass bushing.

90364-30011 roller bearing (2 needed to do both sides)
90381-32001 thrust bushing (2 needed to do both sides)
bearing grease

Dealer may be able to print the directions for you. I could mail them, they won't "cut and paste" from my info source.

Hm... that would be great if you could mail them. If it's a TSB, it won't be free to fix, would it? I'd rather have a bearing than a brass bushing also... sheesh! heh heh... I'll pm you my address... thanks!

Noise in extreme cold conditions. This sounds like my problem. I have been to a few dealers and they don't have a clue. When it is really cold I have a moaning sound come from my axels until it warms up. It has always done it and I haven't had any issues. Does anyone else have this problem? What is the fix
