question about springs...
I know 4runner's suspension is a little rough when its stock, do companies sell springs that have a lower spring rate, that will soften the ride? Something aftermarket that isnt too high in price. Some feedback will be very helpful, thank you.

unless you find a company that will custom make springs for you, chnges are you arent going to find a lower spring rate... as a lower spring rate will also lower the vehicle and probably make it ride rougher as well... it will definately reduce the active movement/travel of the suspension

Maybe you'd be interested in some Performance Products 1" Progressive Springs?
Lowering Springs- to 2wd height

well mine is a 2wd so is it low? What if i put 4wd springs, plus I"m getting my sequoia wheels + tires by this weekend so i think lifting it should be a better idea. If i do need to lift it for the tires should i lift it an inch all around or what? and will it be a smoother ride over bumps if i lift it?

I just got some monroe sensatrack shocks already, because the ride was horrible before and I know the shocks were bad, so which springs should I get for the greatest ride? Should i stick with 1" lift or should i go higher because of the sequoia wheels and tires? Thanks again with the help guys, you guys are awesome.

Will you take it offroad? If not, don't lift it. If you get the stock 4runner sized tires on those wheels, you'll be fine with the lowering springs. The lowering springs shouldn't change your ride height.

Actually I dont go off-road too much, I just want it to be smoother. I dunno what size it is, but I know its the stock sequoia wheels and tires, they are 17" wheels, so most likely they are bigger than stock 4 runner wheels and tires. As for my rear suspension recall i'm taking it in next week. So if i got the stock sequoia wheels + the rear spring recall, should I lift it to give it a smoother ride or leave it the way it is?

if you have a 31" tire with a 15" rim @ 35 psi pressure, the ride will be softer than that with a 17" rim with an outside itre diameter of 31" @ 35 psi
the more sidewall means less shock to be transmitted to the vehicle

Yea that I realized, and thats why I want to fix the suspension for smoothness because I'm getting the sequoia wheels because they look too nice on 4runners. I just want to make sure that the ride quality gets better and not worse.

The Sequoia runs a P265/65R17 tire. Thats a P-Metric tire, which should ride a bit nicer. Jimabena is right tho, less rim=better ride.
That size tire should fit without lift, I THINK. The ride will be better no matter which coil you choose. Remember, it's a truck, not a sedan.

Well I know its a truck but still, my gf's father has a denali and its smooth as hell, I just wanna know how they do it? Is it because our 4runners are light? I know heavy cars are a little softer but I would like to get a better ride quality because it seems like everytime i put a cup in the damn cupholder it makes so much noise from the vibrations and movements of the suspension, I'm totally bummed I dunno what to do to fix it.

its not going to ride liek a denali or the navigator like you mentioned in another post.... they both use air assisted shocks and both have special computer controls to allow them to function the way they do.....
if the ride is that horrible, sell the runner and buy a navigator or a denali

i wanst trying to be mean... but ti seems that in more post than one you say the ride sucks... a lot of people have responded and you still say well i want it smoother like the denali... you must come to terms with the fact that it isnt a denali or a navigator... the navi doesnt even have rear springs, leafs or coil, it uses airbags controlled via a computer

Well, i've sat in newer 4runners and the ride is smoother, thats the only reason I am asking so much. I would like to know whats so different? I dont want it to be like a denali but I do want it to be smooth, I mean i drive on the freeway and i hate hearing that damn cup holder rattle all the time...

newer 4 runners as in a newer generation? or just a newer year? there are several refinements made my top notch enginners to do stuff especially within a differnt generation gap.. there is no way the ride comfort in an 1985 4 runner will ever surpass the 2005 4 runner on road.....

You might be able to even retrofit some of the parts into a 4runner but again at what cost.
As far as the 4runner goes there are a few mods you can do to soften the onroad ride and make it handle better but you will still have a vehicle that is designed more like a truck than a car. Some of the things that make the 4runner so good offroad are far more difficult to do on the Navi and Denali (such as adding lifts). You might try some progressive coils to help with the ride a bit and get some softer shocks or even some airbags that fit inside the spring coils.

P265/65R17 tires are basically the same size as 31x10.5's which are stock on most second gen 4runners. What year is the 4runner in question? Basically it sounds like you should be fine if you get the stock 4wd springs for your year 4runner, as far as fitting the tires goes. I have the PP 1" progressive spring and Old Man Emu shocks, both additions/substitutions improved the ride for me. Hope this helps some.
