hey guys i have a 02 tacoma 4x4 v6. i ws wondering if i change the gearing in my truck or change tire size, i know it will change the calibration on my speedo/ odometer. is there a way i can fix it, by changing the speedo gears or anything. is there a way i can fix it? thanks guys

You have two options to recalibrate the speedo/odo after installing larger tires. First is to use either the Dakota digital or superlift's tru-speed calibrators. There is usually a ton of advice/help for these installs around on the net. If you needed help with it, just do a google search.

The second plan is to just regear close to stock using this gear chart: http://www.off-road.com/toyota/taco/...gearchart.html (www.4WheelParts.com also has a good one but I don't seem to be able to find it). If you were running 31" tires with 4.10 gears and went to 33" tires, using this chart, you'd want to regear to 4.56's (closest size available for the Tacoma). This will put you back to stock performance with your speedo/odo. I started with 4.10s and 31" tires. I upgraded to 35" tires and 4.88 and am running just about stock. Both are very slightly off but aren't off enough to be an issue. I was pulled over doing 43 in a 35 and my speedo said I was doing 43 so it can't be that bad.

If you're not too concerned about recalibrating, others have suggested to just figure out how far you're off. 4crawler has the calculator and it told me I was 11% off. I tested this by driving on the freeway w/ a buddy and checked three different speeds against his. I was pretty much 10% off on speed so this calculator works pretty well.

I figure that I don't want to recalibrate b/c my mileage shows less than there really is. I also know how much it's really off anyway so I just figure that when I'm checking my speed (speeding or not) or mileage (maintenance purposes).

thanks for your help guys. another question, is it true that on these tacomas the speedo and odometer are reading off two different points? like lets say i put a switch in to turn my speedo and odometer off on my dash, so it didnt show up, would it still count my mileage or not, cause my friend told me that it would work but i dont think it will. not that im gunna do it, i was just curious how it worked. would the pcm still count the mileage and update my odometer on the dash when i turn it back on? thanks guys
