Question about my 3rd gen

I have a 97 3rd gen SR5 I bought three years ago, when purchased it had 78,000 miles, and now it has 115,000. SInce then I have replaced the timing belt, and have done all regular maintenance. This runner has been great, and gives me no problem's. Heres my question, this runner has a salvage title, but if you looked at it and drove it you would not be able to tell,so how much less valuable is my ride since it has the salvage title? Also would I appear to be insane if I tried to trade it for a tacoma prerunner,I do not use the 4wd as much as I thought I would.
TIA

The trade is up to you - that kind of thing is all about personal value. If the prerunner has as much or more value to you compared to your 4Runner, than make the trade.

As for the true value of the truck... a salvage title will make most buyers very skeptical simply because of the wildcard factor - with a salvage title, you have no idea what happened to the truck or how well it was repaired. Thus, it's kind of a crap shoot as to how long the truck is going to last and how many problems it's going to give you. I'm just guessing here, but I would think that a salvage title would drop the value of your truck by about 50%. Look up the Kelly Blue Book value on your rig as if it had a clean title. I'd guess your value would be about 1/2 of that with the salvage title. That's just a guess though.

well, i wouldnt say half, but it depends on the condition. I think if it is in great condition despite the damage, you can ask for 2/3 of the clean title price. my brother's 92 nissan maxima got in an accident and needed only a new hood and left front light. insurance company totalled it and a salvage title was placed on it. last i heard, someone bought it, fixed it, and sold it for a quick buck.

yea, that happened to my buddys car too. he hit a parked car when the wheel slipped out of his hands on a turn.

someone bought the totalled car, retitled it with a salvage title and fixed it up and used it as his babysitters car.

the guy called my friend to ask if he had any history on the vehicle (oil changes, etc)... and probably made a good amount of $.

Thank you for your reply's,I was pretty skeptical when I bought this ride, but I have nothing but good things too say about it. FOr the life of me I can't figure out why some insurance company's total things out for minor damage lol.
