pwr Door locks only work with engine running
Ok. I have a 2000 4runner.
I've got a couple of issues which I think might be related. it all started with the rear cargo light not working. I'm in the process of trying to find some time to take the rear cover off but the weather very cold and I don't want to snapp the plastic. (oh.. light works when door open and engine running)
My problem progressed to the power locks not operating the tailgate,
Now on Saturday.. the power door locks don't work unless I start the vehicle.
With engine off
Key in door only opens the one door (not the others)
Button on the driver's and passenger's door does nothing.
once I put thekey in the ignition and turn things on, they seem to work.
Could this be related to a bad ground in the tailgate or something?
Is there some type of separate circut when the key is not on that runs this stuff?
Any help appreciated..
Thanks

Yep, Found it after I posted.. MPX B Fuse was gone. (I should have started there)
Now I still have an issue with no rear wiper working, no rear window (unless truck is on , ie does not work with key in tailgate), tailgate does not unlock with powerlocks and no rear dome light (unless truck is running or key on), no rear defroster either.
I started by lubricating the door mechanizm, but the light comes on if the truck is on, and door open, so iI didn not think it was the switch.
I was wondering if the orange box could be malfunctioning, and therefore be screwing things up hence the fues blown??
Any thoughts.. any way of checking that orange control box?
Thanks

I am having VERY similar problems...
-power locks work on all doors but only if key is in 'on' position/running
-no rear cargo light unless key in 'on' position/running
-no power unlock when using key in doors, no back window with key
-no rear wiper, but i can spray the back window with fluid and my rear defrost works.
Had my battery checked at an auto parts store... didn't get the numbers, but it was holding a charge just fine (I had it checked because it seemed like it was taking an excessive number of cranks for the engine to fire. Maybe related?)
If anyone has any ideas, or if you find a fix, I'd love to hear it. Checking on that MPX B fuse in a few minutes...
Thanks

I got a tip on another post that it was some broken wires in that plastic part that goes between the truck and the tailgate.. top driver's side of the tailgate.
I'm goint go try to get into that tonight when I get home.. (if it isn't too cold)
sure would be nice to get this working properly.

Success! I just went out and checked my MPX-B fuse...it was blown. Replaced it, and I got everything back - power locks, cargo light, wiper, even my keyless entry was still programmed and works great. I thought I had replaced the fuse before when searching for answers on this, but I guess I never got around to it. Hopefully you find a solution to your problem, good luck!

Pwr locks not working without key in ignition
I was having the same door lock problem. They wouldn't work when I set my alarm. Went to look for my MX-B or whatever fuse and didn't see one labeled such. I had however blown my dome light fuse putting a new dome bulb in. I replaced the 15A dome light fuse and that fixed the power lock issue. 😕
