Problem starting engine - 5spd

Hi all,

I have a 2000 SR5 with a 5 spd manual tranny. Everyone knows that we need to depress the clutch to start the car. Sometimes when I try to start the it won't start. I thought there was something wrong with my starter or something, but I think it's becuase I don't depress the clutch all the way down. There seems to be a lump by the pedal that unless you place the tip of your foot exactly over the pedal, it won't let you press it all the way down.

Has anyone experience this??? Am I correct to assume that this is reason for my car not starting all the time.?? Maybe, I should start using my "Cancel Clutch Start" button or something like that.

TIA,

maguirre

Yes I sometimes feel I need to depress that clutch pedal down further, its werid.

I do tend to use my cancel clutch start button more often because of that.

Trying to remember if there's a steering wheel interlock as well....or if that was my last vehicle.

Don't know how yours compares to my 97, but when I got it, I had a hard time with the clutch engine kill feature. My camry does not have that feature and there have been many times where the engine on my truck would die in mid crank just because I let up on the clutch some. I am more used to it, but its still aggravating. I know its a safety feature, but its still a pain sometimes.

I had issues in the beginning until I got used to the fact that you have to really get the clutch fully to the floor to start it. Maybe your clutch pedal isn't hitting the button well and needs to be adjusted or simply your floor mat is obstructing.

I have a 2000 sr5 5spd too.. i have the same problems, and it's just from me not pushing the pedal down all the way. I usually just let go and re-depress the clutch pedal and it's fine.
