Problem just started today.....When I start up the 4runner and put it in drive I can get into 1st just fine and go about a hundred yards but it will not go into 2nd gear....after about 10 seconds of being in 1st I can't get the truck to accelerate anymore and am pretty much coasting. I have to restart the truck to get it to go another 100 yards and so on with with the same problem of not shifting into 2nd and loss of power from the transmission. Does this seem like a problem with the shift solenoid?

edit: btw, the tranny fluid level is ok and smells just like new fluid....also, no CEL's

Does it respond any differently if you use the shifter and manually shift through the gears (L, 2nd, D)?

just took it out and tried it again, it worked fine from L to 2 to D but would not go into 2nd, thats when I lost power from the tranny and had to coast to a stop. I restarted the car and it would not shift into L, 2, or D. I had to let it sit for a minute and started it back up it went back into D for about a 100 yards and lost power again with the engine revving fine letting me coast it back home...

yeah, the truck is warm so I know its not the toyota tranny protector stuff that won't let it shift out of 2nd until the tranny warms up

after some research, I think these are going to be my first steps

Pull the pan and inspect and clean the filter....i possibly have a clogged filter which is giving me low pressure in my transmission.....now, i had the tranny powerflushed in august 2005 so I'm kinda leary as to this being the problem but its worth a shot since the next thing I would have to do is inspect the solenoids

Is their a writeup on checking the solenoids? Also, is the number 1 solenoid notorious for giving problems on the 3rd gen? I found the #1 solenoid for 90 bux as well as the #2 for 90 bux, i hope its not the #3 as its $250
