Was the price right?

Okay, so im not sure if this belongs in the tech forum, but if not, then just say so(wasnt sure were else to put it). Well I just bought my first car(or truck,98' 4x4 taco 2.7 5spd all stock) and ive been starting to wonder of what I paid was on target. When I bought the truck i did tons of research in the market to see if it was priced right and what i should offer, and i felt that $8000 i offered the 65 year old original owners(and ended up paying) was fair. Well to shorten this up, ive been hearing stories on forums of people paying way less then what i did. Well my question is, did i overpay for my truck? Im asking this even though ive already bought it because ive been feeling kind of sick for how much money i owe on this thing at 16 years old, and working 25-30 hours a week while going to school full time is gettin stressful. So is it a keeper, or should i ditch this thing and try to get my money back while i can? (even though i would cry to see it go)

By the way its got 95k on it and its an extra cab, the paint has little to no imperfections and has had ZERO collisions, as i was very particular about buying a perfect truck.

you know all over the country you can find different prices on things. some will say you payed x amount too much or you got a great deal. For a one owner vehicle like you got im sure you found a good truck. that truck is gonna last you a long time im sure of it (come on its a yota). take care of it yourself and oneday if you want to sell it then do so. your young and youll learn more and more. im not gonna say you got a good or bad deal cause i dont know that answere. All i can say is keep working hard and long live toyota haha

IMO (and according to kbb.com), depending on what equipment the truck has, the price is OK, maybe about $500 too much. But trust me, when you buy a Toyota, you ABSOLUTELY get what you pay for. That's one hell of a truck you got, so I wouldn't be worrying. I was in the exactly situation about 4 years ago when I bought my 1st 4Runner, cost about the same and was in the same condition. I was working about 25 hours per week, going through high school, and playing 2 sports. The way I payed for the truck was not spending money on anything other than gas and necessities (eat the meals your mom cooks, dont go out to eat lol). Save your money and you will pay that thing off pretty quick. I would absolutely recommend not doing any mods until you have paid it off. I know you feel stressed out, but I've been there and I bet tons of other people have, too. Keep your head up, brother. It'll get better and you'll soon realize you made an excellent decision purchasing that truck. Good luck with work and school and keep us updated as time passes.

That wouldn't be bad for the central Alabama market. Sounds like its really clean and well cared for. Don't worry about the price. Worry about paying it off, and then start thinking about what you can do with it. Keep it forever, and you'll end up not caring what you paid for it.

I think you did OK. Hard to find a 10 year old truck with less than 100K on it let alone 150K. The 2.7's are almost bullet proof. Sometimes I miss my 97 X-Cab with the I4...

toyotas are crazy expensive in northern california. in 2002 i bought my 93 from a dealer for $7995. put 60k miles on it, beat the heck outta it and sold it for $5500 4 years later. someone offered me $6000 last week for my '79. had cash wanted my truck. found out it wont pass smog and passed it up. i say for a 98 $8000 is a good deal.

Those trucks go for well over that here in WA.

2wd for $8000: http://seattle.craigslist.org/oly/car/461545711.html
2wd for $7000: http://seattle.craigslist.org/kit/car/461335122.html
'97 Reg cab 4x4 for $7000: http://seattle.craigslist.org/tac/car/461287229.html
'98 with 170K $9000: http://seattle.craigslist.org/tac/car/461143471.html

So, yea, you got a great deal. I would love a 4x4 for that cheap! And LOW miles to boot! Besides, typically the best owners of vehicles are the older generation. They may drive slow, but notice they always have MINT rigs?

4WD Toyota's in the Northwest go for crazy amounts, that's probably why the dealer I bought mine from imported it up from Nevada.

Don't worry, I was a little sick about the amount I paid when I bought my 6 year old runner, but after half a year of ownership, I'm all smiles.

Where I live...

...in Southern California, these trucks routinely go for $1K to $2K over what kbb or Edmonds says they should.
