Ok well I made a huge mistake of thinking that I could teach my wife to drive a stick and I bought her a beauty of a 98 4runner 4x4 5spd. Purrs like a kitten but she can't stand driving a stick (she said she had wanted to before.....) ANYWAY I have been rolling my 99 Prerunner as a DD while I fix/modify my 82 so what I was thinking of doing was swapping the trannys. I know that you would have to swap the tailplate on them and I would have to find an auto ecu for a 4x4 but all things considered it's the same engine in both (2.7) and really almost identical except for the lack of 4x4 in the prerunner. Now I bow down to the yotatechies and see if my research is correct and this is possible. If not I sell both and buy a new 4runner....or at least a more current one than a 98 lol. What do you guys think about this? I have all the tools I could need and a couple of lifts plus about 6 or 7 guys willing to help me that are mechanics.....well they don't know that yet but I know my couple cases of beer and my bbq chicken will win them over.

you have a 2.7 in your 82? with an automatic? I wouldn't bother. I five speed swapped a rig before and you are in for some fun, especially trying to get an automatic to work right in a 5spd equipped rig.

No of course not. I have a 99 prerunner and a 98 4runner....those are the two that I am thinking of swapping to please the wife....and save my pocket hook from having to buy yet another yoga.

Ok well I made my decision anyway. I'll just sell both and find another yota that's in good shape. I've had good luck so far.
