this started up today when i got in my car. if i try and turn the wheel its really hard ie no power steering. if i give it just the tiniest bit of gas it kicks back on. does anyone know what is causing this. also if the car is in neutral it works fine. low fluid? bad pump? vacum hose pop off??

Could be a slipping belt. And it sounds like any minor increase in engine speed above idling in-gear kicks the pump in. Have someone shift from drive to neutral while you watch the PS pump and pulley.

As an afterthought, what is your idle speed when in-gear? Is it possible that your idle speed is so low that the PS pump isn't maintaining system pressure? That might explain why it kicks in when in PARK or when you increase engine speed also.
