Power antenna no worky

Power antenna no worky
'99 4runner... I can hear the power antenna motor functioning, but the antenna does not move from its up position. It's up all the time. Can I replace just the mast, or does the antenna come with motor and everything included? Is this an easy job?

I just bought a 97 and the dealership broke the antenna while washing it. Therefore, the motor works, but the antenna doesn't go anywhere since it's only a little nub. They sent me a new one, motor and all. I haven't had it out of the package, but I thought they were all in one. I can check tonight if you'd like. Also, they go for @$144 new. If interested, I'm going to sell the one I got from the dealership.

unscrew the chrome cap that surrounds the top of the antenna, turn on your radio and grab the mast as it extends, pulling it completely out of the base. take the replacement mast and feed the white plastic 'toothed' section back into the base, turn off the radio and watch it retract into the base. screw the chrome cap over top of the new antenna and you are done. 1 banana job.

The antenna motor housing unscrews easily enough to get the rest out and the design is very simple so hard to screw up.

Yep, just follow the directions in the link above and what everyone else has said.
Biggest PITA was getting the plastic wheel molding grommets out.
There maybe a trick to getting them out without breaking them.
I went to my local stealership and the parts guys found some for me for free from the mechanic spare parts.

if the stealer broke it while cleaning it, let them do the install. if the mast was broken off at fender level, the crease caused at the time of breakage will be holding it in the up position. when i broke my previous mast, there was no missing teeth on the plastic part. i need to do this again as i bent it again this past weekend, it doesnt retract all the way and there is no grinding sound.

I don't want to drive back up to Chicago just to get an antenna replaced.
Plus, I don't want a power antenna. I'm going to put in the Tacoma whip antenna.
