What do they do to remove the clearcoat off of the rims?
Mine is chipping off and I'd like to have therims done in Satin black.
Any other advice on the finish?
Flat...gloss...satin?

They will first be sandblasted. I always liked semi-gloss.

I could be wrong but powder coating does not stick to aluminum quite like steel....perhaps after the sand blasting....

We powdercoat aluminum all day long at work. As a matter of fact that is all we powdercoat. As long as the core temps are correct it should not be a huge problem. The advantage to paint (especially on wheels) is it can be touched up a lot easier.

Something you might want to look into is painting your weels rather than powdercoating. I still have my stock wheels and I am going to paint them as soon as I get a chance because powdercoating is too expensive for my college budget. Dulpicolor has everything you need to prep, prime, sand, paint, and clearcoat (if you want) your wheels all for a lot less than powdercoating. Its a pretty easy project to do on a weekend and it is a lot easier to touch up if it gets scratched or dinged

You can powder coat just about anything metallic that will take the curing heat.

Powder coating wheels is a PITA because of all the nooks and crannies and the amount of voltage needed to pull in the powder.
