my axle code is A03A which says 4.10 gears with 2 pinion but "On some models, including later model 4Runners, the "A" code may be shown, but the truck equipped with a 4 pinion diff."

also according to steve schaefers site it says i have 4.10 gears or 4.30 with 265/70/16 tires (which came stock on mine)

i gave them a spin today and it appears to be 4.10

My axle code is G295 (4.10 with LSD). Stock tires are 215R15, now 33x10.50R15. Overall gear ratio is a little bit too fast now...

Hey, Eric mine is A03A, too. My door plate says mine came with P225/75R15. Is that what yours states or does yours have P265/70R16? Thanks...

G292 With the "JT" prefix on the vin meaning it was built in japan. (july '89 iirc) 8" ring, 4.10s, 2 pinion, open differential (on a 4x4 4runner! ) I want a 4 pinion LSD axle like the turbo diesels have!!!

BTW my tag also says 'built in japan No.0055'

Does that mean my yota was the 55th 2nd gen ever made?

My rig G292, 4:10, 225/75 R-15. But have always had 235/75 R-15 on factory alloy.
Looked at the link you gave. According to the chart I should have a code of G284. My truck is 86' 22RTE factory turbo CT-20 I believe, Auto-Trans. JT on the vin#, Japan built.

????????Is 4:10 O.K. if I want bigger tires, like 31's or 33's??????????????????

The "B" stands for 8", which is from the chart at this link http://www.off-road.com/toyota/tech/other/4_axles.html which is from AgRunner06 original post. check out the link. You might want to E-mail them on that link the info for your truck to help them out.

I know this thread is old, but I just found it. This link is also listed in the FAQ on the main yotatech page.

http://www.vibratesoftware.com/html_...ear_Ratios.htm

My 1997 4Runner SR5 4x4, 3.4L, 5 speed with 225/75/15s has an axle code of A202A and the model code VZN185L-GKMGKA. That's a 3.909 ratio. The 4.1s came on vehicles with 265/70/16s. The 4.3s came on Runners with the rear locker.

Is your Tacoma an auto or manual? I initially thought that the gear ratio was based solely on your transmission, so for example 4Runner's with manual trans would be running 3.90 gears and the autos would be running 4.10, (4.30 with the rear locker), regardless of stock tire size.

Maybe the Tacomas are different than the 3rd gen 4Runners, but yours came with 225/75s and 4.10 gears. That's why I'm wondering about your transmission.

Is the gear ratio a combination of transmission and stock tire size? Not knowing what transmission is in the Tacoma it doesn't appear to be tied strictly to tire size if that 96 Tacoma came with 225s and 4.10 gears.

Could you have an automatic with 225/75s running 3.90 gears? Could you have a manual with 265/70s running 4.10 gears? Are there manuals with 225/75s running 4.10? (I don't think this one is possible but you never know!).

Thanks.

I must be reading the table wrong. My code is A03A, but I don't see how you get 4.10s out of that.

I have a '98 4runner 4x4 v6 auto with 265/70R16s. However I'm the second owner, so I'm not sure if those came stock, because the sticker in the door says 225s! The spare is a 265, and I have ABS if that mattered at all.

I'm confused!

Also, what month did they start producing the updated '99 3rd gen 4runners? Or when did they stop producing the '96-'98 style 3rd gen?

Which table were you looking at? There are several out there and most of them are really meant for 1st and 2nd gen 4Runners, (and older trucks). I believe for 3rd gen 4Runners the following link is the most accurate, (again this link is also on the yotatech FAQ page). http://www.vibratesoftware.com/html_...ear_Ratios.htm

It goes by model code not by the axle code. If the door sticker says yours came with 225/75 from the factory then you are most likely running 3.909 gears and the 265s were added after it left the factory, (unless it was regeared at that time as well).
