Poly Steering Rack Bushings?
Alright so i have a very bad side to side motion on my 99 4runner front end has been checked out, balanced, aligned, and it has new bils now. i think ive come to a conclusion that the steering rack bushings are shot and i was looking on the internet to replace them. Not sure if they are the same... I'd stick with wheelers. I ordered my bushings from ToyTec (should be the same as wheelers).
The bushings made a night and day difference in steering, mine were completely shot.

How about this, get under the truck, and have someone wiggle the steering wheel back and forth. If the rack moves, you might be onto something. If not, then replace some other parts.

Just got my wheeler's (second set i've bought from them) yesterday. Its the energy box, just like everything but then they add an extra tube for the 4runners for free.
With shipping it comes out to $26

It is, but will take about 5 hours if it's the 1st time, no rushing, and you have all the right tools.
Absolutely required: good lighting, 1/2" breaker bar with sockets, torch for heating rusty bolts, 6"+ clamp, and the rest of the regular tool box.

Got my rack bushings from Wheelers. Took me about 3 hours to install. Kind of a PITA. It tightened up the steering, but not as much as I had hoped for. I still get some play that's especially noticable on rough forrest service roads. I'm thinking my whole rack might be shot, but I dont want to spend the $$ now.
But anyway, get your bushings from Wheelers, get the right tools in advance, and dedicate 1/2 a Saturday to it.
