plug wires?

is there only 3 spark plug wires on a 3rd gen 4runner

Yes, and 3 coil packs.

bought my rig at 82,xxx miles dont know if previous owner replaced then..should i do a tune up...plugs, wires, pcv, and do i have to replace those coil packs?...what else is there needed to do a basic tuneup..jess to better my mileage..?

You need to test the wires before you replace them. I am at 80K miles, and mine are good. You will need a multi-meter and somone that knows that spec range of the wires. Don't just replace them unless there is visible damage.

The coil packs can be tested also. You will know it when one of them goes out on you.
