plug wires ???????

I just changed my spark plugs and now its runnin crapy. If my plug wires were old and they got damaged in the process of changin out plugs what would it run like? I gapped all the plugs to .032 ( toyota specs.) and the plugs are all seated down tite. When I bring the rpm's up and hold the throttle the tach jumps up and down about a couple hundred rmp's ( like its missing slightly ) is it my old plug wires that got damaged from pulling them off ( a couple were pretty hard to get off ). Any input would help alot, thanks guys

The wires would be my guess. I had one get burnt through a while back and it ran like you're describing now. One of the connectors might have been pulled out of the wire.

Plug wire snug?

Double check those connections at the plugwire to plug. Then make sure the firing order is correct. If all looks good then you have a bad wire. either get a spark tester for $5 or set of wires for $30? Have fun!

thanks for the reply guys. I think I'm going to just get some new wires in the morning the ones on it look like they might be original so they need replaced anyway. My grampa thinks the little carbon deal inside the plug wire is damaged from being old and brittle so when I pulled the wire off it got damaged. do you guys think this is the problem since it didn't do this before the new plugs? The little boots are all popped on so it must be internal.

Might as well do the cap and rotor while you are at it.

wires

those wires are a pain in the ass, i know what youre going through. i decided two weeks ago to change my plugs ( i was going to do the wires later) and the damn things wouldnt come off! i tried everything i had: a boot puller, pliers, good ol fashioned pulling and finally it came off....without the insides. stupid wires. i ended up breaking three of them just getting them off and had to pay $59.95 for new wires (autolite). youve been warned, those stupid wires are expensive. not only that, but the plugs themselves were all but seized into the block, that was even more fun removing. after all is said and done, i gapped them to factory specs. i checked them a week later and noticed all kinds of crud on them, they were almost fouled! I re-gapped them to .036 and it runs wonderfully now. i checked them yesterday and they were perfectly clean. I'm no mechanic, so only do what youre comfortable with, but i do know a hotter burning spark will prevent build-up, to a point anyways. good luck!

Make sure you use dielectric grease on the boots so you don't have a problem removing them next time. Anti seize on the plug threads is also a good idea.
