Hello,
my '00 2wd SC'ed 4Runner is suffering from a vibrational problem that seems to come on when ever one is one the gas, most prominent over 60mph...then it goes away around 75mph and over. It also goes away when you let off the gas. The vibration is mostly felt in the seat rather than the steering wheel or elsewhere. I have done a search and most of the other threads said that it had to do with the wheel balancing. Just yesterday I got the wheels balanced (for the second time actually since this vibation came on...the first time it was done at PepBoys, who didn't do ˟˟˟˟...the second time done by a place recommended by the local Toyota Dealer), but the problem is still there. If anyone one has any ideas what can be the cause of this vibration, and/or how to remedy it, please let me know, it will be greatly appreciated. By the way, my 4Runner has 39K miles, and about 6K miles ago got some new Bridgestone Deuler H/P's, and as stated before, just recently balanced and rotated and aligned...Darshana Sarathchandra

vibration in the seat often means the REAR wheels are not correctly balanced. And an improperly balanced wheel can show symptoms like you described, with the shimmy there at one speed, gone at another.

I would start with tire pressure check and then re-balance the rears at a reputable shop.

U-Joint in the rear axles. I blow mine to hell at least twice a year,

Good news is they are CHEAP and easy to replace. (Well after youve done the first one yourself.)

Ill bet $100 bucks thats what it is.

i had almost the exact same problem, and it turns out the guide on my rear axle for the emergency brake cable was too tight. it needs some play in it so it doesn't pull the emergency brake cable when you're on the gas.

This is a common topic on this forum. It seems that most experience the vibration at 60 and it goes away at 70 or 75mph. I too had the problem. I had my tires balanced, rebalanced on a hunter machine, pulled the drivehsaft and drove in 4-hi. No success.

I ultimately fixed it. It was the tires. I had them replaced.

I'm not saying that is the problem, but most stories about "stock' vehicles with this issue are fixed by a new tire or tires.

Your vehicle is so new, I would doubt that it is worn u-joints or anything else. I could be wrong though. From my past experiences, I would scrutinize the tires.
