A Plastic Worm Is Coming Out of My Seat!
Over the last year, a plastic "worm" (i.e. a 1/8" dia. solid plastic string) has worked its way about 8 inches out of the piping in the driver's seat. It's coming from the left side of the fanny pad, not the backrest. I've taken the seat out before, but I'd rather not do it unless I know the string can be somehow shoved back into the piping.
1998 Tacoma LTD with individual seats
Anybody had this experience??
And BTW, what does "2nd Generation" mean?

I dont know about the "worm" but second generation has to do with body style.
The first generation pick-ups are from 1979-1983
second generation pick-ups are from 1984-1988
third generation pick-up are from 1989-1995(I think)
then the Toyota named the pick-ups Tacoma and it started all over.

Any pics of this mystery string? Not completely sure what you're talking about . Can you not just cut it off?
To expand on what Kaleb said above, anytime you see the word "generation" after a number, it signifies a particular year body style. (This term is universal across all automobiles.)
4Runners go like so:
1984-1989 1st gen
1990-1995 2nd gen
1996-2002 3rd gen
2003-present 4th gen

Different generations are much more of a difference than just body styles. Each generation has unique engines, and many other mechanical changes.

I had the same thing, I bought different seats and that solved my problem. I don't know if there is a good way to get the plastic back in. It happens because of the fabric being worn through at that point.
