knocking sound

Hey about a week ago my truck started to knock. It happens whe I give it gas but at idle its fine. The more gas I give it the loader it is. Im worried this is a rod knock, if so do you think if I bought a rebuild kit for my engine and installed it, would it make this sound go away? My truck has about 170,000 miles and it's the 22re. see 3rd post for complete edit..

Thanks,
Mario

Check your ignition timing. It may be off.

Will do, But today I went and picked it up from my buddy (mechanic) who says it has a rod knock but it only happens when given gas at idle it's fine. And when I was standing outside listening to him give it gas it is clearly a knock but in the cab it's pretty soft but out there its load as can be. To me it sounds more like something rattiling. Could this be anything else? Should I invest in a new engine? Or try to rebuild mine?

Thanks,
Mario
