pics needed of 3rd gen. 3"susp. and 2" body

I posted this on ttora also but it seems like I get quicker answers over here. Thanks in advance for any advice!

I searched last night for some pics of 3rd gen 4runners with a 2.5"-3" suspension lift and a 2" body lift but ended up not finding to many pics. Also if you can put in you 2 cents on ride quality I would appreciate it. So if you have some pics could you post'em or send me a few at thegper@msn.com. I am wanting to maybe go to a larger tire and was thinking how it would look with a 305/70/16 or a 315/75/16.

Thanks in advance....Bryan

you don't need that much for 305's. they're 33" in diameter. all you need is a 2" suspension lift in the front to clear them. for 315's (35's), then you'll need the same 2" of lift in the front and a 1" body lift.

1. 1.5" of suspension lift and 1" body lift in this pic with 305/70-16's on 16x8 wheels and 4.5" of backspacing. no rubbing after trimming the pinch weld on the firewall.

2. this one has an OME suspension. 2.0" up front and 3.5" in the rear with a 2" body lift. those are 285/75-16's on 16x8 wheels and 4.25" of backspacing.

3. this one has 2.0" of front suspension lift with a 1" body lift. the firewall has been clearanced along with the upper A-arms so the 315's would fit. those two things are a must to run 315's without any rubbing.

Do I need to regear for 33's? And if the answer is no, what about 35's?

you dont have to regear for anything. It is recommended if you go 35s though. 33s?..that depends on whether or not you want the power back. I have 4.10s and 33's and havent regeared. Im not a throttle jockey so im not too concerned with the loss of power.

Eventaully I want to regear.

2.5~3" susp, 1.5 BL. before and after.

not much noticable difference...on a black truck anyway haha.

305 is the same height as the 285's just wider so no added clearance needed. when i did susp and no BL i rubbed only on plastic trim parts (flare and running board@ full lock. i have FZJ80 wheels which are 4.5 or 4.75" backspacing..

what gears do you have now? ive got 4.30's and felt a power loss goin to 285's. im over that now, but wish i had lower gears on the trail. same would apply for 305's. if youre wanting 315's its alot more work. wouldnt go higher (numerically lower) than 4.56's and would definitely need alot more clearancing either via cutting, or bigger body lift..of which i wouldnt do the latter...

295's would be another good choice. 295/75-16's are ~34" tall and approximatley 11.5" wide compared to the ~33" height 11" width of the 285's and the ~33" height and 12" width of the 305's. i know Nitto makes a Terra Grappler in that size...

I like that Idea. I'll have to check on the BFG at's and see what kind of deal I can get. Now hopefully I can sell my 285's to offset some of the cost of doing this.LOL

Harrison,Does your truck feell like it has alot of bodyroll with the 285's on it?

I like the stance of kyles rig alot. The Lexus rims are 4" backspacing right?

I can feel the body roll, but it doesn't bother me that much. I am a very easy driver on the road and it handles fine off road with the stuff we have around South Carolina. I am definately going for some larger/wider tires in the near future.

bamecham, What all is involved in clearancing the firewall for the 315's. I already have total chaos upper arms and AR Teflon rims w/4.5" back spacing. I am leaning towards maybe the Pro-comp extreme all-terrains(Kind of a mix between the muds and regular all-terrains). I also noticed the runner in the 3rd pic only had a 1" body lift. Would a 2" mean less to worry about on the firewall?

Thanks,Bryan

Please show pics of how much pinch weld trimming was required to fit 33x12.5's with only a 2" lift... I'm not debating whether it would work or not because with enough trimming, anything is possible... Just want to know the extent of how much cutting is involved...

I cut my pinchweld back almost even w/ the firewall and don't have any clearance issues w/ 285's and 2" lift. I will try to get some pics for you when I get my truck back.(Tomorrow or Thursday)

I don't have any rubbing with the Donahoes in the front and 285/75/16's Tires. It may be because I have aftermarket rims though?

Not sure if you are still in the market for pics, but here is my rig with 3" suspension and 2" body.

My front end clearance after some trimming with a Dremel (before 2" BL):

And after shaving the lower valence (before 2" BL):

Body lift install... the left side (of the pic) is finished, now onto the right:

All finished

All dressed up and ready to roll...

Eric is your truck only 2wd? I have alot more clearance with the 285's and Donahoes in the front than what you are showing you had without the BL.
I am assuming the 2wd's have a lower stance?
