I personally would not cut my coil springs. (That is my opinion with no evidence to back it up otherwise).

If its what you want to do, then by all means- go for it!

But, Do you really know how much has been cut off of the coils and If they exhibited any sag before they were cut?

IMO, if you want to lower it, then you should buy a product that will yield proven results.

if you lower a stock runner, you WILL be riding on the bumpstops - LITERALLY.

if you want better handling, then get a thicker sway bar.

While I totally disagree with lowering a 4Runner, I have to ask, why is it such a no-no? All your doing is lowering the height of the coil, effectively bringing the chassis closer to the body, lowering the truck. It does not effect spring rate or anything. It's the exact opposite concept of adding a spacer to the coil spring for lift. Now, another low budget way of lowering a car is to heat up the springs with a torch, and that is a definite no-no since it fatigues the springs and really screws up your ride.

bamachem is right, you will be riding on your stock bump stops. In that auction for the springs, it looks like he included a new bump stop though. All you have to do is cut a few inches off the factory bump stop and re mount it.

Again, I have to state that I totally disagree with lowering a 4Runner. But i hate seeing misinformation.

And as far as the install goes, it's pretty simple. You will need a spring compressor though, but you can rent that for free at AutoZone. Check out the tech write up section here, there should be a how-to for swapping out shocks and springs.

If you are going to lower the truck always do it with either lower springs or by cutting a coil or two. Removing the temper on a spring is about the worst way to lower the truck. You may also have to remove the bumpstops to get any travel on the suspension at all. If you are just looking to have it handle better, then get poly bushings, thicker sway bars (front and rear) and some billstein shocks and it should corner quite well.

Don't be such as ass.

You cant come up with an explanation of why cutting coils is bad? You should always have a reason for posting answer to peoples questions on the board.

Get some of those Eibach springs. Count the number of coils. Now count the number of coils on a stock spring. I'll bet you the Eibach springs have less coils. The Eibach springs will have a stiffer spring rate than the stockers to improve handling.

So, can you give me a valid reason why cutting coils is a "no-no" ,

cutting coils will lower you but your ride will suffer and it causes your springs to relax much sooner than normally. I would do it right the first time and go with the eibachs myself. They are nice sprigns and will improve your handling even more because of they are designed to be smaller and will perform like you would expcet them to. when you cut the stock springs they werent designed for that so they are going to not work NEARLY as well as gettign the eibachs.

one of my friends cut his grand prix springs and within a year. He replaced them with eibachs 2 years ago and its defintly a lot better than when they were cut

I don't know if this will help but my cousin cut his front springs on his Integra 10 years ago. I guess I can only describe the ride afterwards as "springy". If we went over uneven pavement while driving the front would bob up and down for a little longer than you'd expect.

cutting the coils = bad....first off coils have progressive spring rate, if you cut off more then the dead coils it will ride like total crap..I know that from experience. If you were to cut the center out of a coil and compare it compression characteristic to the ends it will compress ALOT more easy. So you get a bouncey ride. If you ONLY cut the dead coils off then if you hit a big bump or pop a curb the spring will move in its seat...Thats why if you compare stock coils to 3" lowering coils they ARENT 3" difference until you put them on the car. When you put them on the car they compress easier then the stock coils thus lowering your ride. But they still have enough force to stay firmly mounted in the seat if you hit that bad pot hole.....that plus the coil is made to handle the weight of that vehicle, cutting it down reduces its capacity and could break...i've never witnessed that but I've heard of it happenings.....
