picky clutch

I've got a question for you guys. I have 99 SR-5, 5 speed (currently in the body shop, as my fiancee got run off the highway in it by a semi) I hope to get it back soon!

My situation is, as long as I've had it (6 months) I have found that I have to bury the clutch to get it to start (or use the clutch bypass thingy) Is there an adjustment so that I don't have to drill the pedal into the floor just to start it? It seems as though I have to press it way farther to even shift than I ever have in any other manual I have driven.

Thanks to all.

By the way, I ordered one of those $148 "Sport" hoods from Auto Parts Warehouse since it was going to be replaced anyway. I felt if I had to be inconvenienced, at least I could get something nice out of the deal!

Again thanks for any help.
K

What your describing is the neutral start switch. It prevents the engine from being started while in gear. There is an adjustment, probably described best in a FSM, not sure how to adjust because my 85 doesn't have one.
Good luck

I had the same problem, and it turns out the clutch was toast. If your "pedal feel" is REALLY firm towards the end of the clutch pedal travel (depressed), you may have a bad clutch. I am giving you the worst case scenario. Best case scenario is that your clutch is fine, and you just need to make a small adjustment to the clutch start button bracket (near the floor).

After the full clutch job at Toyota, my Runner was much easier to start, and drive for that matter.

Check your floormat too. Make sure its not blocking.

By the way, I only had 67K miles when it needed a clutch. Turns out the previous owner liked to ride the clutch a lot.
