Pic of Edlbrock headers (coated & wrapped)
Port matched, HPC coated, Thermotec wrapped & sprayed, and still cheaper then TRD. We'll see what kind of power these babies put down.

Taping headers wont cause them to rot. I taped my header on my 95 SI for 2 years without a problem, and that's when I lived in Seattle.
Not only does it increase the scavenging effects of the header, it also visibly (temp gauge) reduced the temperature under the hood.
You just have to make sure you do it correctly, or you will get hot spots.

Yeah, header wrap is ths shiznit, if done correctly. I used it to wrap my turbo and it lowered the underhood temps by about 1,000,000 degrees. I used an Electron Scanning, Nuclear Powered Thermometer to measure that change.
Seriously, it does make a huge difference when done right. I'd like bigger pictures of them, Zubaltec. Please?
Paul, I think that if you have a factory single Cat, the Edelbrocks will fit any V6 4Runner from 1996-2000. Call Edelbrock to make sure.
Peace!

Got the headers & wrap (Thermotec) from summitracing.com. I think it was $350 for the headers, about $100 for 2 rolls (2"-50ft) wrap, snap straps, 2 cans black silicon spray, and then the HPC coating (got a deal as they sponsor our race car). I've used wrap on my old Civic and just about every single turbo Supra I've done. It holds up well, you don't burn yourself, and I've proven it to help make more power. The only side effect is the smell of it for a week or so.

Paul, that recommendation probably has to do with the EGR/Emissions fittings, which could probably be plugged by a resourceful installer. I dunno, hopefully Zubaltec will enlighten us.

I cut the EGR flange off and welded up the hole. Well the exhaust just got here so, it looks like I'll be busy tonight. I'll report back later on what I think of both the headers and exhaust.

Well.. I think DrZ should head out to Orlando and help out Zubaltec. And while hes there he can take pictures and do a decent write up on the install. Sound good?? Ok then.

Well the install is done. I left the cat in for now. Waiting on another Borla muffler to replace it. I notice a little power increace. At 4000rpm you can really feel it. For everyone- These headers fit my 99 2WD auto. So now all of you can go out and buy them. Just block off the EGR. I have a couple EGR block off plates if anyone needs them. Well we have power back to the dyno so, I'll have results within the weekend.

Zubaltec, care to update this thread? I'd like to know how the wrap and headers are holding up after a few years now.
Anyone else tried wrapping their Toyota truck headers or have any expenence with how to correctly do it.

Cool, did you use the Thermotec wrap too? I saw on their web site not to overlap the wraps more that 1/4 inch, is that what you did? Any more tips? I'm guessing with the wrap you wouldn't need a lot of extra heat shielding, is that a correct assumption? What headers do you have?

I have a 02 with two cats, well only one really and would like to know if your milage got any better too? you were reporting 19mpg correct? did the install require any welding or was it a bolt on only job? Thanks alot
