PCV catch can mod and gas mileage

I did my PCV catch can mod about 3 weeks ago and I must say it really does clean the filth from going back into the combustion chambers. A week after installation my bottle was already 1/4 way full. Here's the catch though... after tracking my gas mileage before I got around 16 mpg. I've been tracking it after the mod and now I'm getting 14.1 for the average of the past 3 weeks! Can someone explain this to me? I'm probably going to reverse the mod and see if I get the same results then I will know whether or not it's the catch can or an underlying problem. Has anyone else had a problem with this? TIA

Edit: For those that asked for pics, I finally borrowed a digicam and uploaded it to my account.

Catch Can

I have one now for over 1 month. I increased in mileage.

Check for a possible vac. leak.

What and how did you make yours?

Here's a write up for you guys.... http://www.mirage-performance.com/so...Can/index.html I just went to Lowe's and bought the air/water filter then bought the male connectors that goes with the air hoses. Then had to go to Advance and buy a fuel safe 3/8" hose since nobody else carried them here and installed everything. Total cost was $22.58.

Ttus I checked and no vacuum leaks or anything as far as I can see. I used the water/air filter with brass male fittings and teflon tape to screw them to the ends of the filter. Took the actual filter out and test fitted the hose and cut. It pretty much dangles next to the Coolant hose in front of the timing belt cover. So far no problems with melting and it really does work as far as separating the oil!

No digicam anymore... Maybe if I get my gf one for her b-day next month I will shoot it up. For now I'm taking the mod off and comparing the results. Just for a note: I have NOT changed my driving habits after the mod so it cannot be a major factor. I drive "like there is an egg between my foot and the gas pedal." I'll post up results hopefully in a month.

Update: After removing the PCV mod I've noticed no difference in gas mileage. Just wanted to let future searchers to know it's not a negative mod to have. Just last week I've replaced my O2 sensor and am now up to 17.6 mpg so after a few more weeks I will take my averages and the put the PCV mod back on and update later.

PCV on a 3.4 is the rear nipple on the intake right?
im sure it is because i getting some oil on that fitting.

There's two "outlets" for PCV; 1) a larger hose that plugs into the rear of the intake track, and 2) one smaller hose that connects to a brass fitting on the front of the TB.

so run the hardline(to back of intake) and the brass TB line to a catch can then another line to the same spot in the intake...

The line on the back of the intake is a "soft" line with a hard brass male fitting in the end of the line. The now exposed hole in the intake would obviously have to be filled, along with the brass fitting on the TB - which is easier said than done I might add. I only mention this to get people thinking in the right direction.

I like your two into one idea, but surely the front PCV (the one with the valve) serves a purpose. After all, why would it have a valve on it? At some point it must want to vacuum; I bet that's why.

I should also mention that I tried a breather on these lines and it turned into a disaster, as it stunk to high heaven at idle.

well theres a hard line(top of IM) connected to the soft line on the back of the intake.
i was saying stick your can in between the hard and soft line, and then add in the TB fitting too.
3 lines total. vacuum comes from the intake, as it does in stock form.

And could the decrease in milage be that we switched to "summer" gas, instead of the "winter" gas? I dont know much about that subject, just thought I would throw it out there.
