Passenger side power window switch problem

Noticed today the passenger side window switch doesn't work to well. Dont really know how long its been like that because it is not used much which could be the problem. Basically if you just simply press or pull it the window will not move, but if you press it pretty hard and fast and pull it up the same way it'll go. The driver side pass switch works fine.

I'm guessing that means that the switch is just having issues, possibly from not enough use. Is the switch easy to buy and replace, or is there another idea to try first?

thanks

i took mine out, cleaned it with contact cleaner, buffed the little copper springs, put it back together and it didnt make one bit of difference! all i did find out was, those little copper springs are a real pita to get back into place correctly! if you figure out how to get it working properly, please post and let the rest of us know!

if the motor is still running then it's probably your window regulater that is broken. It's easier just to remove and replace it with a new regulater.

I think its the switch because the window operates fine with the drivers side switch.

Same thing, except my driver's side switch won't make it work either.

my 02 had the same prob w/ the switch. would go up manually, but not in the auto-all the way up. i removed the switch panel from the door panel (still on door) and unscrewed the back of the switch. one spring and no copper contacts, only the little rubber nipples w/ imbedded carbon. wiped both sides w/ 70% alcohol and reassembled. tested b4 replacing the switch. wahda ya know- it worked and has not been a prob since. i took it apart because (no $$$ and curious) i couldn't find a JY replacement, so i figured i would look at it and see.
from the other post, a pink rubber pencil eraser will work on the circuit board, but not the rubber switch contacts, which is usually what gets dirty or wears out.
give it a try.

Just wondering, the switches in my taco look like there are mounted in a piece that just pops out, is this true or does the door panel have to come off?

I'm bringing this thread back to life because I have a similar passenger window problem.

My 99 4runner was broken into 6 months ago. The crooks broke the passenger window to get inside.

I got the window replaced by a local independent window shop but had to leave for the summer for work in FL so I wasn't able to take it back right away.

What happens now is if I pull on the driver's control swith too long, the window comes down to the half open mark.

If I time it and let the switch go at just the right time, the window stays up.
Same thing happens with passenger control switch.

Anyone solved a similar problem before?

sounds like it needs to back to the guys who put the window in.
will it go all the way up and/or down? there is some type of sensor in the motor to prevent getting crushed in the window. if it binds it may stop 1/2 way(your problem?)

I hear you on taking it back to the window vendor.
It's hard to put this rig out of commission for even a day since its the wife's DD.

The window has full range of operation.
It will go all the way up, and all the way down.

If I "pull" on the switch to "command" the window to close, the window starts to rise correctly. It continues to rise until it is fully closed. Now, if I keep pulling on the switch at this point, the window is autonomously commanded to open and it will go down to the half way open mark.

The nominal mode of operation should be that the window stays up if the regardless if how long the switch is pulled on.

Like you said, it's time to take this in to the folks that installed the window.
Just wanted to see if other yotatech members have had the same problem.
