Panasonic stereo questions...

Ok, when I got my 4runner it has this REALLY nice Panasonic CD player in it, im not new to the world of electronics, Ive done my fair share of installing decks, amps, speakers, and subs. But this just puzzles me.

When listening to AM/FM all is well and works fine. But when i listen to CD, only the FRONT speakers work, i checked fade and its center but its only the fronts that work. The only thing i can think of is maybe a fuse or something?!?

Hello fellow CA. Your best bet would be to just ˟˟˟˟ can the CD player. I had a panasonic player in my 4runner for about 2 days and man did it suck bad. It made the speakers sound horrible. I went with a pioneer deck. Much better. If you can't afford a new deck i would check to see if the wires are hooked up correctly. I don't think its a fuse because then your deck wouldn't even come on.

I agree, trash the Panasonic. Sounds like something is seriously wrong with it, and not worth repair. I too have a Pioneer and LOVE it! I will be selling it though to get the new iPod compatible Alpine (if it ever comes out).

Spend $200 on ebay and get a decent, middle of the road deck. Shop Pioneer, or Alpine. (Yah, I'm bias)

There is nothing wrong with Panasonic. Panasonic has a pretty good repuatation when it comes to head units. The problem is in the wiring. For some reason Toyota wired the 4runner so that the rear speakers will play only when then antenna has power. I had the same exact problem with my old Alpine deck. The shop wired mine so that the antenna has power all of the time. Therefore the rear speakers have power all the time. There is nothing wrong with your headunit though.

AHH! I had the same exact problem with my cd player! I finally took it out assuming it was bad. I guess I can put it back in now!

Hmm.. So very good to know. That must explain the extra jumper wire on my Metra Harness. Glad to hear it's a simple fix!

Maybe it's the inner spender in me trying to justify an upgrade!

if you have a second gen runner, this is caused because of Toyota put like mini-amps in the rear speakers. These mini amps are set to get power when antenna has got power. There is a write-up somewhere on the net as to how to rewire it to best effect, didnt sound too tricky. But of course i cant seem to find that site now, run a search and you may get lucky!
