Overheating issue

Well today will sitting in a parking lot, I noticed my temp gauge was in the red. I went inside the store for about 45 minutes and started it up without any probs, the temp was normal. The only time it seems to dip into the red is when I'm sitting still. I noticed even when I'm stopped at a stop light it will rise. When I'm driving there is no issue. Could this be a tstat problem? I was thinking fan clutch, but I'm not really sure how to check it.

those symptoms show a bad fan clutch, next time it starts to overheat, pop the hood and if the fan is barley spinning/moving any air, then its your problem
