Overheating???

So I bought my 90 v6 automatic and it would go in and out of o/d and the temp guage stayed a little below half. Replaced open t-stat and it stayed in o/d. However after driving in o/d for 10 min it would get almost to red and stay there. If I down shift or rev it up it would immediately go down to half and then creep back up. It also does this on the trails....rev it up and it would come down. Its got a new radiator and air has been bled out. Has anyone had any problems with the temp sensor doing this? This truck is only my toy that goes to and from trails, etc.I guess if I have to I will put the open t-stat back in and deal with the o/d issue. or....bypass the o/d relay.Does anyone know where that is located?? Thanks guys.
