Over heating issue! Please HELP
Ok so yesterday i drive about 45 mins pull into a parking lot and realize that my AC doesnt feel like working to well. The temperature in boston at the time around 99 degrees. So i open up the hood and my fan isnt turning and the gauge is in the red. So i turn off the car and my ac and let it cool down for about 20 mins. Wheni turn the car back on again without the ac the temperature gauge goes up again so i blast the heat in full and watch the needle go back to normal. and dive home ony to find that the bottom shield thta surrounds the fan was blocking the path of the fan and not letting it move. so i clear that and we are back to normal.
Today i flush the radiator by opening the drain plug on the bottom of the radiator and put in a 50/50 mixture of coolant and distilled water.( i only had distilled water in my radiator for the past 4 months long story) when i start up the engine the needle goes to the red an i blast the fan but no heat comes up even after 10 mins so i decide to drive it even though the needle is in the red figuring its just an air bubble throwing the gauge off. eventually i am left with a clanging noise and a check engine light and someting that shuts down the engine. What has happened aside form me being an idiot and what do you guys think. Please help

Yes that is correct. But I think I have somewhat solved the problem. It seems as though I did not put enough anti freeze in the engine. I guess even though I filled the resivoir all the way up I had to out more in the cap. So I guess my concern is what did I damage. Or what was possiblet damaged because of the lack of coolant?
