I don't think it is because most of the stuff can be gotten from junkyard. The wiring harness is the only thing that some people may want. To me thats the easiest part of the job but others think it is the most difficult. in case you haven't seen this
http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showt....0+to+3.4+swap
Search for 3.4 swap on Yotatech, 4x4wire, and offroad.com. Many have done this swap without this kit.
Here is a good thread on Yotatech

2WD but he answered a lot of questions.

A year ago that kit was only a $1000. Once they seen the market for how many people wanted to swap they jacked the price to $2000. Now it's on sale for $1650. If you read all through that site you are not getting anything that cant' easily be fabbed up yourself or found in a junkyard. The harness is what you really need. If you have the skills to do this swap I would think you can manage with everything else. I thought very seriously about buying the kit till I had my dad the master fabricator read the article and he was like hell no dont' buy that I'll build ya any of the brackets and the rest we'll hunt down somewhere else... sooo that made up my mind. As soon as I get my donor truck I'm just going to get the harness from them and go from there. May regret it later but I don't think so.

If you read the article over a 4x4 Joey is totally right.
Look at the pics and you will see the only tough part is the wiring harness.
Even then if you're good with wiring, then no probs at all.

The kit used to be $1k? Is this internet lore or actual fact? My recollection is that it came out at $2k and has since dropped. Oh well.

The kits puts everything together so there is no running it down. In essence you are paying for someone else chasing parts for you. If that is not a problem for you, then obviously it is a waste. If you are a master fabricator and wiring wizard, then do it all yourself. If you are asking here, then I would snag it.
