Ordered New Runner

Ordered New Runner
I just put in an order for a Limited V8 4x4 in black (no XREAS). Dealership has not given me a date yet. Does anybody know when the Daystar lifts are coming out? Do I need the 1.5 or 2.5 inch kit to fit 32's (265 70's)?
Thanks,
Barry Dickson

I believe a 32" tire is equivalent to a 265/75R16 in metric.
I doubt you need a whole lot of lift to run a 32". I bet a 1.5" lift would allow you to run that tire. Check with fourrunnabilly and a few other who have done lifts on 4th Gen's (try a search).

I'm pretty sure that the new 4 Runners (that's how the new logo looks, so I'm going to write it like that ) come with 265/70/17 tires, which are exactly the same height as 265/75/16's. So, you won't need ANY lift to run those tires...
Maybe you meant a different size?

Bo,
Congrats on your purchase ! Got a couple answers for ya:
Daystar should already be out with their 4Runner lift. I had the prototype on my truck and got switched out for the production one back in September/October. It ends up being a 2.5" lift once you are done with it. Go to Daystar's web page and see if they have it advertised yet. Better yet, drop them a line and see where they are at.
Factory tires are 265/65R17s, which equate to a 31" tire. With my lift, I went with 265/70s (~32" tire) on a rim with less backspacing. IF you stick with a factory backspacing/rims, you probably could stuff 285s (33" tire) under there with little problem. Of course, things will be a bit tippy with that setup.
Good luck ! Hope you like your runner !

Steve,
The new lift is not on Daystar's website. I will email them and see what they say. I wanted to go with 265/70/17's (32's) BFG's on stock rims. I'll go with the 2.5 inch lift just to make sure I have enough clearance for off-road.
I got a few questions:
1. Does the lift raise the front and rear the same amount?
2. How bad is it on the drive train/joints?
3. Does your vehicle drive/ride any different?
4. Would you recommend new rims? If so, what kind?
Thanks for the help,
Bo

Bo,
Giving you the executive summary to your questions, you are good to go ! Here are the details:
1. Actually, no, the lift doesn't raise the front and back the same. The front is about 2.75", the rear is just shy of 2.5". This levels the truck quite nicely. I am actually still .25" low in the front.
2. No problem on the CVs nor ride quality. I couldn't tell the difference. Front driveshafts are straight across after the lift, so no CV boot problems as plagued the Tundras.
3. Yes and no. Yes, I had a ride difference after the lift with the stock tires/wheels. It was tippy, due to the raised center of gravity. After getting the new wheels/tires, however, the truck rode the same as stock. The tippiness is gone.
4. Do you need new wheels/tires ? No. Will it help cornering and handling ? You bet ! It made a huge difference once I got the new wheels. I highly recommend getting new wheels with less backspacing after getting this lift.
If you do a search on this forum for my name, you should be able to get a bunch of info on the lift and wheels/tires I have. In addition Fourunnabilly has also done some lifting to his Runner. Getting the info from both of us and making an educated decision, you really can't go wrong.
Good luck !
