Oops! Time for a new fuel tank?
Of course, it looks like I hit it right below the fuel tank sending unit. On that particular tank of fuel, my gas gauge never dropped below 1/2, even though I put in 15.5 gallons. I refilled with fuel and the gauge goes all the way up; only time will tell if it will ever register below 1/2 tank again.
Is there any chance I bent this one badly enough to worry about the fuel pickup tube and screen?

Easily repariable, I do it all the time to mine.....
You'll need to drop the tank, then pull the fuel pump/ sending unit, the bracket will be bent, simply straighten it out, then use a 2x2 to pop the dent out of the tank......

That doesn't seem too bad. I might as well throw a Walbro fuel pump in there while I'm at it for certain future potential modifications. 
Any thoughts on why the sending unit is acting up? I wondered if the impact itself might have bent the float/potentiometer peg away from the contact strips. ???
The skid plate looks dandy too.
Lessons learned:
The 4Runners gas tank sits a lot lower than my previous 1994 pickup
Don't crash over rocks.

thats nothing, mines a LOT worse, and I know others on here make mine (and yours) look new, lol
looks like its time to relocate the tank.
Im hoping to relocate (a custom tank) to where the spare goes, this winter.

Why don't anyone make a custom gas tank skid? I know i'd buy one
thats a custom job, shaffer made a few, maybe he will post up.

Mine tank is also trashed. I just picked up a used tank, sending unit, and skid.
I have a fab guy working on a custom skid with the plan to make them available to the public. So, if all goes well, there will be a custom skid available within a month or so...I need to get one and thoroughly test it prior to mass production and release.
Be patient and watch for the advertisement...

Ric, i'd pay whatever it's worth depending on the design.
Anything would be better than the tin foil already on there. yeah, it's custom but it looks pretty simple to make.
Even if the gas tank was relocated to the spare tire location, you'd still be dealing with the same issue...just not as much.
I'd like to see BudBuilt make one.

I was on a steep hill with opposing boulders covered in sand and couldn't get traction. (The e-locker was on.) I tried to bump it over, but the fuel tank is lower on this 4Runner than the Toyota pickup I am used to wheeling, and that, combined with the soft rear suspension, it just hit harder than I expected. Time to start pulling together my Tundra/OME lift...

my tank takes a gallon less gas than it used to. Don't bother me really.
A gas skid isn't a bad idea, i've only seen a couple that work well, however. I'd keep an eye on what Jim's guy is coming up with.

heres a couple of options,
1) IF a "real" (custom) skid plate is going to cost around $300, why not just replace it with something from a Isuzu, (or similar) and put where the spare tire goes, and never worry about it again ?
2) IF the custom skid is going to cost closer to $400, have a custom tank built, again where the spare tire goes, (Bruce was working on something like this) I know that a custom tank can be built for about $500 with a skid plate built into it, this will keep the tank from hangiing down lower than the frame, and free up that space for other things, such as batteriers, air compressor, anything.

I recently built a skid plate for my stock tank from some spare material laying around. Made it for the Big Bear run......
Lance currently has my mock-up for a rear tank, he's planning on getting a quote to get a few made. It'll have aproximately a 25 gallon capacity.
