Question 'oo tacoma shakes

hi guys

'00 tacoma, i have replaced the axle. had the car aligned and slapped on new balanced
yokohamas.

the truck's steering wheel shakes pretty bad but not all the time at 50-80, other times its
really smooth. i don't know what it is! can't be the wheels or the axles can it?
this shake happens when i accelerate and also when i'm just coasting at the speeds
mention earlier.

this is only sometimes, i'm baffled. could it be an engine mount? the truck only has ~65k
miles.
any help is appreciated. thanks!

Dallas Tacoma,

I would check the brake rotors. Does it happen when you apply the brake slightly. Did you replace OEM axels or aftermarket ones?

Good luck,

Nam

hey nam,
the rotors are good. it does not shake when i apply the brakes.
the axles i used are orielly's which are the re-man ones.

try getting the tires rebalanced. can you pinpoint a certain speed at which this happens (50 to 80 is a broad range). ive gotten mine balanced several times and i still get shakes at about 70 to 72mph... this is unavoidable, i just need to make sure i dont drive at that speed.

i would say 65-70 then, (its my dads truck so i hardly drive it to know exactly whats speeds). but geez it shakes really bad. i will take it to get the fronts rebalanced and let ya know how it goes!

get them all balanced!

but yea, that should solve it. but keep in mind that as i said, i went somewhere that had a hunter machine (widely considered the best) and it still wobbles a tad at around 70 even. so i drive above or below 70.

find a shop near you that has a hunter.

Talking Balanced

Not just balanced, but ROAD FORCE balanced on the Hunter, that is the key to getting rid of shakes and shimmies!

will do sux i paid for the balancing and its no good, it was a mom n pop and i'm sure they didn't have a hunter to balance the tire.
i will take it to discount tire, they have a hunter. (thanks for the link!)
