Is this OME setup safe?

I'm considering an OME lift, but I don't want problems! My setup is as follows: Front-- (2) OME881 HD coils,(2) N91S (standard) or N91SC (comfort) shocks, and (2) OME 1" Trimpackers; Rear-- (2) OME891 HD coils and definately (2) N86 (standard) shocks. Tell me if you think this would keep me safe: OME881 HD vs. OME 882 VHD front coils, 1" OME Trimpackrs (or any brand 1" spacers), the Revtek differential drop kit , and then tightening some heavy duty hose clamps around the CV boot. Would all 4 erase all doubt? What benefits would adding a pan hard drop do for my rear axle, or is it necessary? I have just over 200lbs. of stereo in the back of my 4Runner, so I won't get te full effet of the OME891's, but will the lift strain the rear axle? Also keep in mind that I'm not an extremist when it comes to off-roading. I'm set on the rear for coils -- definately OME891's.

honestly, everyone's CVs act different to lifts.

most people however, are fine with the 881 (w/ trim packers) and 891 combo.

I'm doing the OME Medium's all around, with HD shocks, and 1" spacers up front...

Can't wait to get my shocks in!!
There is a post by a guy here that had some FUNKY angles on cv's (he used HD'S) during a recent install. you should read that post!
Now that my lift is almost complete and ready to install, I'm thinking about just waiting and getting SAW's. I plan on a TJM this summer anyways. *sigh* no money for anything but the truck...oh well!

i used to have horrible angles on my old truck. I went to Advance Auto (I'm sure any auto parts store might work) and bought a new CV axle for $80. It comes with a lifetime warrenty and i would blow one out about every 2 months so i would just take one off, take it back, and they would give me a new one. You can do this if you dont want to have to worry about your angles. BTW this was for a 90 chevy truck. I dont know what the deal would be for a toyota.

Yep, that was me. 882's are a waste of time unless you're putting a heavy bumper and winch on there. ARB themselves would agree. The diff drop has a minimal effect on your CV's with those shocks.

True, everyone's rig will act differently. I expected mine to act differently than what I currently am experiencing. Good luck if you go with it, but you have been warned. I'll let Steve Schaefer pick up where I leave off.....

Yep I found that out today when I called Mike at Xtreme Offroad and Performance. We figured out a definate setup now. It's going to be OME881's, N91S's, and OME trimpackers in the front, and I'm going to do the $30 differential drop for some extra insurance. For the rear, I'm going with OME891's and N86's. Both sets of shocks are regular, but OME's are supposed to be rated extremely soft, so I'll be OK. Both sets of coils are HD (not VHD)The extra hose clamps cost next to nothing. I actually almost sort of stole two from Home Depot yesterday (they were on the ground out of the store, still wrapped though). Maybe $3 tops. I think I'll be OK, and I might add a brush guard later to increase the weight in front. No new bumpers or winches though. Should I get myself into a fix, I'll be sure to post another "3rd Gen CV's, Am I In Trouble?" . I have a buddy -- well actually a couple of buddies -- 3 bottle jacks, 1 hydraulic jack, WD-40, tools up the wazoo, and jacktands, but no kind of spring compressor. Does one only require the use of the spring compressor for replacing the front coils? Is it possible to substitute 1 or 2 bottle jacks for a spring compressor? And if so, is it probable? Thanks again Yotatechers for the info.!

Compressing springs can be extremely dangerous, even with a real spring compressor. It was even scary using a hydraulic compressor, you should have seen how much the compressor bent under load. Go down to autozone or something and rent one.

Always use the right tools for the job.

Sure, if you would like to take first place in the next round of the Darwin Awards!

Steve's right, you do need to be extra careful when using a spring compressor. The hydraulic one we used was much more beefy than the ones you rent, and the springs really torqued it.

It doesn't cost anything to rent spring compressors either. You just put down a $30 or so deposit, and you get it back when you return the compressor. I used one when I installed my spacers way back when.

Yeah, I think the Kragen Auto Parts stores out here charge $6, with a $50 deposit. If you do get charged, the cost is minimal.

When I get around to this install, I will most likely rent one from Autozone... Are those really that reliable? People's views seem to lean toward the "the rental ones are sketchy" side.
