Question Old Man Emu Size Shocks 4 Downey IFS Dbl Shock Loop?

Hi there, my first post, I appreciate your pacience.

I would like to know what size (Part number) shocks (Old Man Emu) I can/must use when installing a Downey IFS Double Shock Loop. At this time I have no lift kit, but may install T-Bars and 2" Rr Spgs in the future to better accomodate 32" Tires. I believe that the shocks are available in the Medium and Hard variety for my 1990 Long Bed Toy.

Any help or experience with this would greatly appreciated.

All the best,

LBL

Hey, you got here quick!

In your email you didn't say you wanted to fit 32s, 32s fit without any lift, with stock backspacing. Unless you are going to install a heavy duty bumper, like an ARB, and a winch then your stock Tbars are fine. HD Tbars are really only needed for extra weight and will otherwise result in a stiff ride.

Reply to Steve (Moderator) Thanks!

Yes indeed Steve, I'm lookin' to start the up-grade process asap.

I am planning on upgrades in stages.

1. IFS DBL Shck Lp w/ OME shocks. OME Shocks in rear.

2. Diff locks Frt/Rr. Either Downey LSD or Detoit TruTrac maybe the
new Electrac.

3. (When current tread on 31s wear out) T-Bars, 2" Spgs.
I've used Dny T-bars on another Long Bed (Stolen)and though
I did notice a firmer ride, it wasn't nearly as harsh as I'd heard.
To go with 32" MT

4. ARB Frt Winch Mount (Oh yeah) Warn 8,0000 Lb winch

5. Join a 4X Club and get to it. (Though I'll probably do that soon
enough even with my stock-ness.

First things first. Gotta determine the part number for the OME shocks. The guys at Downey Off-Road suggested that I use the size shocks which would fit an FJ-40 for use in the Dbl Shock Loop. All I need to do now is get the part numnber for that shock and I'm good to go. I've emailed ARB and am waiting for their reply. I will get there, I know it's gonna happen, I can see it!!

Thanks again.

Sounds like you have it worked out.

One thing, detroit doesn't make the electrac for toyotas (yet). Your only options for selectable lockers are arb or retrofitting a toyota electric. There's writeups floating around somewhere about retrofitting, there's minor welding and drilling involved.
